ouijaParticipantanyone seen or using this yet? I installed the RTM Build 6000 version on my pc the other week, seems alright, however very frustrating in the fact that there are still no drivers avail. for half of my hardware! so I ended up re-installing XP after a few days.
Things seems to run a little slow too, and i was even using the x64 version.
I think i’ll stick with XP for now… until I splurge and get a mac!

drumixParticipantI’ve played with Vista (Beata) for a month or so. Yes the drivers are a pain in the ass but that’s what you can expect during the ‘beat’ stage…everyone scambles to get their product supported
I haven;t installed any audio programs but I can say the the user interface is much friendlier (after getting used to the slight differences of coarse…)
Navigating is much better; for example: Hit the Windows KEY, start typing what you want to launch, it will probably show up in the list that forms almost immediately
Still, no quick way to create a folder; you still have to right-click and goto two sub-menus to do it (or got File –> New..whatever…
Theres more but I’m going zzzz
peace

MichL*ParticipantMh, i dont think i’ll get it, at least not at this point. All i heard was negative, regarding the countless bugs and shit.

wickettakerParticipantthat was only for the beta..i’ve used it and still using it

CDAParticipantWell I’ve got Vista premium for my vaio laptop and Ultimate for my workstation. I’ve not yet installed either of them (waiting for some new hard drives to come through to back up all my laptop and workstation) but I know All Propellerheads software works with the final release of Vista! Which is great for me since I use Reason3, Rebirth & Recycle! I’ve also just read on the Steinberg site that Cubase 4.1 has a Vista installer too! Only Cubase 4.1 though, not 4.0. The upgrade from 4.0 to 4.1 is free! I’ve just upgraded my SX1 to Cubase 4.1 for £150.
There’s no point holding back, one day we’ll all have no choice but to run Vista, might as well start the move over now!AdSense 336x280February 5, 2007 at 9:57 pm #612288
xanaxbarzParticipantI just bought my laptop, and for the rebate im getting Microsoft Vista, i hope that it is all its cracked up to be
AdSense 336x280February 5, 2007 at 10:13 pm #612290
CDAParticipantWell I’m expecting little bugs here and there. Like any major software release its bound to have creases that need to be ironed out. But microsoft will find the bugs and get em sorted quicker if we’re all using it and pointing these issues out to them. I hope its got an error report dialog like XP. At the end of the day, its a usefull windows dialog box for once!
AdSense 336x280February 7, 2007 at 1:17 am #612392
xanaxbarzParticipantYeah i feel you on that

squadup1djaceParticipantive gotta upgrade my cpu to vista, and ill let you know what i think of it
AdSense 336x280February 11, 2007 at 7:25 pm #612842
CDAParticipantI’m running vista premium on my laptop which is a sony vaio with a 1.66ghz dual core p4 & 1gig ram. I’m running reason at the moment and have no complaints yet on speed or reliability. I’ll be installing cubase 4 and rebirth soon. I’ll let you all know if I find any proper bugs!
You have to remember though that all these comments and arguments over vista happened over xp when that came out and now look, everyone’s on xp, we wouldn’t use anything different (except for mac of course if your a mac user)! But saying that, I do agree with devilzone that you generally have to give an OS a year before all the creases have been ironed out and developers have updated all their software and components to run smoothly with vista. Plus in a year’s time 1gig ram will be average and most users will probably have 2gig or more unlike now where the average system ram’s probably about 512mb – 1gig! Same goes for all other hardware like cpu’s especially!

emcundergroundParticipantit looks good, but as many – i will wait until all the bugs are sorted out.
AdSense 336x280February 19, 2007 at 11:55 pm #613730
XerixParticipantYeah, I’m getting mine for the rebate as well. My friend has Vista though and doesn’t seem to be having any problems with it.
The interface looks way coolers and it’s way easier to navigate.I imagine it sucks a lot of RAM and CPU power though…
AdSense 336x280February 22, 2007 at 1:24 pm #614050
davenickParticipantif your not using a dual core processer with at least 2gb ram it will kill your computers performance
AdSense 336x280February 24, 2007 at 12:12 pm #614242
ZebParticipantFirefox 2.0.2 is out ! for Vista
AdSense 336x280February 24, 2007 at 12:25 pm #614243
Marcello_64ParticipantI don’t know about Vista… maybe in a couple of months when a lot is compatible with Vista… but for now i’ll stick with XP
AdSense 336x280March 3, 2007 at 10:25 pm #614821
10571zParticipanti think ill wait till they iron out the bugs before i upgrade.

goastkillaParticipantOnce, sight doesn’t come into asks, perhaps if one new PC needs, this still can last for aba for me.
Sight isn’t stable enough yet and some programe don’t run on this either :- ( everything tested already, I stay with XP SP2 therefore as long as as it only works when I need certain tools of sight and want to tie her in my XP are there PC periodicals where I get di information about Vista-Optik-Tools
AdSense 336x280April 14, 2007 at 11:40 pm #618768
acheadKeymasterVista is full of locks i hate it
AdSense 336x280April 14, 2007 at 11:49 pm #618773
flpevmanParticipantwell… this is an extremely common problem. between lag, driver problems, and compatibility, i havnt been to satisfied with Vista either. however… there is a service pack coming out for it soon. I’m gunna check that out
AdSense 336x280April 16, 2007 at 10:24 am #618905
CDAParticipantSince only I use my PC I’ve disabled the UAC. It makes using Vista less annoying at times like when you get the "Allow this program to run" everytime you start a program up even if you’ve set it to run with admin rights. As long as your running a decent firewall and virus software then I don’t think UAC is a major security requirement unlass you let others use your pc/laptop!
AdSense 336x280April 16, 2007 at 3:25 pm #618925
RuubenParticipantI’m going to wait over the summer and then check the vista again.
AdSense 336x280April 19, 2007 at 11:38 pm #619238
CDAParticipantThe main thing that impressed me about Vista is the networking side of the OS. The lag has gone!! In xp I would sometimes sit for a couple of minutes while it accessed another pc on my home network but with Vista its like your accessing files on the same computer your using, there’s just no lag! Which is great for me as I work from both pc and laptop and need to keep both in sync, sample libraries etc!
AdSense 336x280April 30, 2007 at 9:10 am #620145
CDAParticipantYeah Vista is a bit hungry, you need 2gig ram minimum really. If you look at the pc’s and laptops on the high street they all come with 2gig now. Thing is though ram’s come right down in price. I just bought 1gig for my laptop to pump it up to 2gig total and it only cost me £30! This time last year you’d be looking at around £90 or £100 for a single stick with a gig on it!
AdSense 336x280May 1, 2007 at 1:38 pm #620284
zaky12345ParticipantI think Vista ist worst than Xp, because you must have all programs legal.

MidarezakiParticipantzaky12345 wrote:I think Vista ist worst than Xp, because you must have all programs legal.Mentioning (or even hinting at) warez here is likely to be frowned upon by the mods. Still, I see where you’re coming from. if I buy the computer with my money I expect to be able to make it do what I want it to do, not what some trumped-up overpaid upstart in Redmond permits me to do with it.
My new Vaio dual-boots WinXP Pro and Linux Fedora Core 6. I deliberately bought it just before Vista came out, to take advantage of the reduction in prices of the older machines they need to get rid of to make space for the Vista ones.

anisinaParticipantSoruk wrote:Mentioning (or even hinting at) warez here is likely to be frowned upon by the mods.Yeah, we do.
Don’t mean we aren’t human though. We just want the overall picture (to those that may hold a sword over our heads) to look positive for all of the members here, and enable the use of the ‘treats’ to widen everybody’s perspective of the use of vocals.
Soruk wrote:if I buy the computer with my money I expect to be able to make it do what I want it to doCouldn’t agree more. I want to tailor my platform, of choice, to MY requirements. For me, XP is still far better. I can tweak it, and do little things that I have begun to get an hold on. Just like the new ‘Cubase4 is brilliant’ argument, Cubase4 doesn’t take DX plugins. So, I (and the place I work) won’t switch to Cubase4 until it is right.
And… I was looking at Laptop’s, and they’re all Vista.
But it’s marketing.Just my thoughts.

But it’s marketing.Laptopshop ( http://www.laptopshop.co.uk/ ) still have WinXP machines, if you don’t mind doing mail order. I got my Vaio BX297XP from them in January. WinXP Pro, 1GB RAM, 200GB HDD(!), 2GHz Centrino (Pentium M 760).
Also, Dell are rumoured to be reintroducing WinXP as preloads (though that might only be in USA… most tech news seems to come from there).

anisinaParticipantThanks for that, I’ll look into them, then decide over a cup of whiskey.
