gloombotParticipantI’m not good by any stretch of the imagination but I found FL Studio pretty easy to start off on. It’s pretty simple to start off with but once you play with it a bit (and build your sample library and pick up a few VSTs) you can make things that don’t sound so cheesy. Adding effects, mixing and sidechaining are pretty easy to do, which was nice. Downsides I ran in to were mostly a lack of good hardware interfacing, no practical way to play live and the automation system being kind of clunky. Some of that may have been improved, I know there’s a bunch of things that got added/changed in versions 8 and 9 that I haven’t had the time to play around with and explore.
Even though I don’t have as much time to focus on music as I used to I’m making the change to ableton right now because of the improved hardware interfacing and the potential for live performance.
Guess it depends on what you’re trying to do really (i.e. what do you want to do with the beats after you make them?)

SubCollectiveParticipantI’ve been in the music production biz for a decade now and I’ve been through FL studio (1.0 mind u lol), Reason, all the E-Jays (Dance EJay, Hip EJay etc), Magic Music Maker, Ableon, Logic Pro and Pro-Tools. I tried using Cubase but didn’t have the time to get into it.
My personal favourite DAW (digital audio workstation) picks for easy to use, intuitive flow of work and quick accessibility are:
FL Studio
Ableton (my primary daw)
Logic Pro (my secondary daw)
Pro Tools (this is what we use to master clients projects)Always follow your heart.
Peace

qarrellParticipantI personally use FL Studio but there are lots of good programs out there. It is more the matter of finding which one works for you rather than what peoples opinions are of what they think the best are. FL Studio, Ableton, Cubase and Logic are some of the more popular ones that you may want to research. Find the one you like or talk to your friends and people you think you may be doing tunes with and use what they use. This way it will make things a lot easier to work on music together and you will also be able to ask them questions, etc. I hope this has helped.

ReplayR7ParticipantThe programm doesn’t really matter at all. It’s the user sitting in front of it

gorky0123ParticipantReplayR7 wrote:The programm doesn’t really matter at all. It’s the user sitting in front of ityep ^^ – they all do the same thing – pro tools & logic prob have the best sound engines (according to engineers at least) but it’s not significant enough for you to base your decision off. The only thing that matters is what you’re comfortable with, bc at the end of the day you can have every single plugin & sample pack in the book, if you’re uncreative and lazy they ain’t gonna get ya anywhere
ie:
Laidback Luke – FL/ableton
Deadmau5 – Cubase/ableton
Arty – FL Studio
Porter Robinson – FL studio
Thomas Gold – Logic
Chris Lake – LogicAdSense 336x280May 4, 2013 at 5:11 pm #698369
ombudsmanParticipantyou should think about what kind of workflow you want… do you like the idea of a linear sequencer, or a more loop-based workflow? some people prefer to start out with the latter approach, in which case ableton and NI Maschine are two good progams to consider. ableton has many more features, which maschine is not really a DAW but is pretty fun to use for getting your ideas down quickly.

theofficialcketParticipantFl Studio is extremely powerful contrary to popular belief.
I started with Fl studio then reason and now I have been using Logic pro for 3 years.
I love Logic’s interface for myself.i think its easier and cleaner for me also the summing up engine in logic is great.AdSense 336x280June 4, 2013 at 2:27 pm #698850
clearybuzzParticipanti have been using ableton for the last few months and i dont have much knowledge of music theory or anything…. but making drum loops is very easy and there are many tutorials to show you how to create a good bass drum or modify your drums to cater to the genre of your choice.

Phero_ProdParticipantAbleton 9 is INCREDIBLE and you now get Max for live with it and can use it to make your own devices and instruments.

earthwormyepParticipantableton has a lot of great functionality but its interface just bugs me too much. logic is super straightforward to use; ableton makes my head spin

DeLeftoverParticipantAvicci used to be a clown before he started using fl studio. Now he let the computer do his work and he is a jobless clown, hanging out on the streets. That’s how good fl studio is.
