nvrmindmeParticipantdepends on the user…as mention cubase and protools are high end, but niether is noob friendly…Fl studio is great for noobs but has a horrible default sound library…Reason is my personal favorite because it has amazing sounds but i hate the sequencing of it…
Just depends, but if ya just starting, FL studio is where its at

imixbetter15Participantyeah im i have been using FL for 3 weeks and im not good at making beats at all so i have no clue on what to do next
AdSense 336x280October 8, 2007 at 4:47 am #634801
nvrmindmeParticipantfl is rather simple to use…if you play with it enough, it will become simple to ya…Thats how I learned it…Just fuck with shit and you’ll get it after a while…plus you can youtube for a lot of helpful tutorials

leeleew2004Participantbest for me for beats is fl studio, but it all depends on the level you’re at. Maybe something like cubase or protools might suit you better.

imixbetter15Participantis there any trials for cubase or protools?
AdSense 336x280October 11, 2007 at 6:06 pm #634971
BuBaParticipantWell there are a lot of topics here where you can read which software to use. I always say its not what software you use, its how you use it.
To answer your question: I know for cubase that there is trial version but not sure for pro tools since I think you also need powerfull hardware to use it (I might have mixed it with other software).
Today software is relatively good for home production (lets say to start somewhere) so when you master that then you can move on.
If you go out and buy most expensive stuff (hardware, software) and not knowing anything about music then I think you`ll throw away money for nothing cause you want know what suits you best.Thats my opinion.

yazza187Participantimixbetter15 wrote:is there any trials for cubase or protools?i think their is for cubase but it is pointless getting becuse it will come with no or very few VST’s which is what it gets sound from, Pro Tools their is no trail because it is a Professional program and only works on a Mac and u must have an M-Box to run it, i would say get a stand alone program like Fruity Loops or Reason. You can get Fruity Loops for about £95 and Reason 4 has just come out this week so Reason 3 should be cheap and you can get a trail for Reason
and in answer the Best Program for beat making is Pro Tools because it is the most professional program and is found in most studio’s

diverseParticipantI use cubase and reason and love them, have also used logic a bit, but like the way cubase does things much better. Not sure when you said beat making if you were talking about making songs in general or actualy making drum beats. drum machine wise I really like battery or the one in reason is also quite good.
AdSense 336x280October 20, 2007 at 3:55 am #635534
jefpeaceParticipantYes, ProTools runs on pc, but it will only run well with an intel cpu PIII or higher and at least 2gigs of ram. They used to offer a free version for folks to get their feet wet, don’t know if they still do. I’ve got both the free version and the full version but seldom use either since trying Magix Music Maker.

Peace.

BrewmachineParticipantFL studio is wicked for making beats, once you get the hang of it you can pump out loops rapido style… try downloading some loops you like and loading them into the slicer
AdSense 336x280March 16, 2012 at 2:49 pm #691850
gwattParticipantI love Ableton live for mashups and re-edits but you can also write music with it…
If you are on a Mac protools professional level..
AdSense 336x280March 27, 2012 at 2:14 am #692004
SpankPatrolParticipantFor beats? You could use any daw of course but I’d recommend like so many others you look into FL Studio. It started out as a pure beat sequencer. Personally though, I’m very used to working in Logic so that’s what I use. Just get anything to get started with. I began with just a really simple sequencer, can’t remember the name of it now, though.
AdSense 336x280May 3, 2012 at 3:56 am #692531
unmarkedParticipantI use acid pro for drums, it’s easy and quick to lay down kicks, snares, etc fast. midi support is great with virtual instruments as well and when it comes to remixing, it has fast tools that keep the production moving. My favorite software is cakewalk’s project 5…. unfortunately they didn’t continue development, they integrated it into cakewalk sonar and X1. I still use itas a stand alone program and it pushes you to create…
I am also still a heavy fan of synth based sequencers – ensoniq mr-76 and zr-76 is in the arsenal. One day, I may cop a motif of some sort.
Protools is solid of course, I have never used logic, but I have heard of it’s greatness.

tonybuttonsParticipantI come from a long hardware (ASR, MPC, Korg machines) mostly hip hop, production history, and have made the switch to Reason in the past year. I’m on Reason 6.5 currently and I feel like there’s nothing I cant do. I hear that Ableton is the best out there, but I honestly don’t see a need to step it up any more as a hobbyist. Everything can be manipulated and automated and now you can insert audio (ie vocals, guitar, whatever) and manipulate and run effects on everything just like the internal sounds. For instance an acapella off this site can easily be input as a track, then edited (I convert to .WAV). Loads of refills available, and the software has not messed up on me ever. Sounds a little cheesy, but Reason made music fun for me again.
AdSense 336x280July 15, 2012 at 8:11 pm #693805
MC240384ParticipantI use Logic, used Cubase for 4 years and ended up hating it due to its unstable habit of messing up every so often.
Logic has the best FX, audio editing and smooth workflow imo wouldn’t switch to using anything else
