junoParticipanteither a house or multi-genre comp is cool with me. the multi-genre thing might be a prob – if some1’s not into hardcore or trance and thats the style you do then u might not get as many votes. but when it comes to the real world u have to choose what you think ppl will like anyway…..so I dont know.

dj_canedParticipanttim.gosden wrote:Alright plan. But surely reason users cant use synth samples? I think if the drum samples yes but synths no. Synths are soo varried, if you only gave a few sounds everyone tracks would sound the same and there would be no way of being individual or making yours standout. Maybe give a set list of plugins or soundsfonts? Then they can be tweaked eg. Vanguard gives sooo many different sounds that everyones track would be different.Yeah, but you cant be sure everyone has that 300 quid plug-in and im not about to support piracy which would be the obvious solution to this
Reason users can use samples of synths through the the N19 and the NNXT sampler, the NNXT even gives your enough processing power to radically mess up the sample with LFO and the likes, meaning it wouldnt sound much like the original. I have worked many competitions like this back on http://www.ukmusic.com and everyones remixes have turned out worlds apart, even though there using predefined samples.
Anyway it was just an idea to look after the new guys and people coming from differant genres who dont have house sample cd’s and big trancy synths etc.

ordioParticipantAny rules for using samples from other tracks, like lifting the strings or bass line for example from something else, or would you prefer it to be 100% original?
AdSense 336x280April 27, 2005 at 9:00 am #571097
acheadKeymasterI’m thinking there should be some rules here.
I think the sample pack is a good idea Caned, however I also think limiting to these samples only would be a mistake.
How about something like… issue samples and pellas yet also allow additional samples and generators, then maybe make it a rule that you must use a certain number of the samples or loops. That way everyone’s songs will have a theme but won;t sound to similar.
Like Juno said, this should be a Remix competition, or almost just a completely original song but with particular loops and vocals as specified at the start.
In answer to Clio, I don’t think lifting other smaples from songs should be allowed becuase that’s what the samples Caned or Juno will be providing are for. So… after the provided samples everything should be original.

ordioParticipantNo probs, I had a nice strings sequence from an old 70’s easy listening song in mind for it. I’ll use it for something else.
Can’t wait to get going on this.
AdSense 336x280April 27, 2005 at 11:54 am #571101
acapellaKeymasterGlad to see you all really “thirsty” for this forthcoming remix. We like that !
My idea that I had was for this competition to be based around a pre-supplied remix pack of “Pump up the Jam” that I have sat on my hard drive. To whoever you are thankyou (sure it was someone here). It’s just an idea I’m playing with atm (juno + caned).
Anyone with their finger on the pulse will know that there was a certain revival of this classic early 90’s track. “Artist(s): DONS feat TECHNOTRONIC”
Actually come to think of it – I’d rather everyone entering had a chance to work on an idea that hasn’t already been done – so sack my idea lol.. I’ll shutup..
walks away crying like a 2 year old

In SilicoParticipantFYI, I would be more than happy to MOD for a Contest forum. I sit on a computer all day making beats and surfing the net anyways, why not right? PM or EMail me if you’re looking for a hand.

WiperParticipantHas anyone thought about making rough rules and limits, just to have something to think about now?

I am quite ill at the moment, as soon as I feel slightly better the rules will be posted, probably this weekend
AdSense 336x280April 28, 2005 at 6:32 pm #571169
tim.gosdenParticipantCant wait already:) Should be good fun even if everyone elses is loads better:P
Anyone had any ideas for pellas?
AdSense 336x280April 28, 2005 at 9:32 pm #571180
DJ ValParticipantJust downloaded the pella of pump up the jam. I was a bet disappoited, 16 seconds, not much to work with. This calls for TMG to do a diy acapella.
AdSense 336x280April 29, 2005 at 12:21 pm #571196
acheadKeymasterYeah… I think accappella has actually has a full remix pack rather than just the pella that’s available to download. I could be wrong though.
AdSense 336x280April 29, 2005 at 12:47 pm #571207
acapellaKeymasterCrin wrote:Yeah… I think accappella has actually has a full remix pack rather than just the pella that’s available to download. I could be wrong though. You’re correct Crin – The competition will be based purely around creating your own REMIX (that’s NOT a mashup or a blend) meaning your OWN instrumentation, riffs, beats etc etc etc from the complete “Pump up the Jam” Sample Pack I have.
Also as an incentive to everyone whose gonna enter, I’ll throw in a 3xCD of Hed Kandi to the winner and also depending on what we get back from you all if the standard’s good enuff we MIGHT (don’t hold me to that) just might be able to work out some kind of booty (white label) release for it.
But as I said DON’t quote us on that it’s just an idea and you’ve really gotta show us your production skills (across ALL levels).
On a sidenote – this comp’s gonna be big so we wanna get it right OK…
AdSense 336x280April 29, 2005 at 12:49 pm #571208
acapellaKeymasterIf anyone reading this is in a position to offer acapellas4u any prizes for this competition I’d love to hear from you.
AdSense 336x280April 29, 2005 at 7:15 pm #571228
acheadKeymasterI’ll be writing about it in my blog, not really a prize but It does get alot of traffic.
I can’t f**king wait to get started on this now. Especially if there’s a chance for a release, maybe even third second and third could get on the 12″… dependant on quality.
The only problem with it getting a release is that we’ve kinda been beaten to it by E Limited Records, they’ve got a 12″ out currently with three remixes on it. That’s not to say ours couldn’t be better 😉
AdSense 336x280April 29, 2005 at 8:01 pm #571230
junoParticipanti know this was originally meant to be a House Remix Comp but are we going to stick to that genre or make it an all around EDM Comp? no problem either way – some breaks will probably creep into mine even if i try a house remix
Thats good motivation Pella – Anything is better than nothing
AdSense 336x280April 29, 2005 at 8:11 pm #571232
ordioParticipantJust read in DJ magazine today that there is a remix of Pump Up The Jam coming out on Kontor Records / Data Records (Ministry of sound) by German producer D.O.N.S which has been getting loads of play in Miami.

AdSense 336x280April 29, 2005 at 9:51 pm #571235
DJ ValParticipantJust heard a preview of the three mixes of this 2005 remix. They’re not too bad but I’m sure there are some of us could match if not better them. Good luck to all that enter.

acheadKeymasterAh well… I’m too excited about what we could do with this tune now to go back… and it only means it’s more likely to get people excited if it’s already been put back into the public eye. Think about the latest spate of tunes all using the “in you arms” vocal… Mylo, then Sunset Strippers and then whoever it was that got a relese on Data..
