jaredweissParticipantDubstep? Brostep? Loud noises that I want to stop?
What does everyone think about this "unique" genre? My friends and I still debate it. They love it but I don’t think its that great? I like it, but I get bored with it if I listen for too long?
Any thoughts?

ChunkyEatsMyDinnerParticipantGoing to a dubstep night would be as much fun as eating my own toenails!
If your wacked out on MDMA it would still only be equal to dancing to a car alarm.
I do however love the inspiration it has given to the worldwide music scene.
I have been inspired by it, Ive used it in 2 of my recent remixes for a few bars and in a 3rd tried to create a ‘Dubstep Rock’ break.

(Check out 2:28 mins in)Its one of many beautiful seeds that the UK has given birth to, its never gonna evolve into something as special as UK Garage
which we all know and love, more than likely it will be laughed at in a few years. But it has already influenced top producers around the world, the best example of the top of my head would be the Disco
Fries remix of International Love;

(And they are offering a download!)
Possibly one of the best remixes of a weak song ever made! (Your DJ sets are gonna get a tiny bit better after picking this up hehe)

DubinsonParticipantPersonally I feel that it is a misunderstood and misappropriated genre. IMO Skrillex et al is and are not dubstep. The original dubstep sound has been so hugely warped now that it doesn’t remotely resemble the original sound. This is why I think the ‘brostep’ categorisation is really functional to describe the new midrangey sound. I would recommend anyone who has mixed views on the sound and isn’t quite sure on what people mean when they say stuff like what I’ve just written to check out fabriclive.37 and tracks by people like horsepower productions and jay da flex’s future garage mix to understand the genre better in it’s early and in my eyes more defined stage. i.e. the garagey syncopation, shuffle and swing which has been completely lost recently

Chunky you’re awesome. LOL.But anywho. I don’t really listen to dubstep but the closest I’ll get to the genre is Rusko. It’s cool what the other artists are doing but for me personally it’s just getting to be way too much. You can only hear so many drops before it gets old.

marksidraParticipantIt’s pretty mad, except it’s grown so big that there are also some crappy artists out there making it

ReplayR7ParticipantI like it, but I don’t think that it will supersede house music from clubs any time soon. it’s simply not danceable that well.

famehungryParticipantNot a big fan tbh it’s just a bunch of random sounds mashed together so I wouldn’t call it music. God I sound like an old person

leudiusParticipantdubstep… i think its gotten big and that may bother some people just because its the new thing or whatever. Personally i like some of it and i like it a lot. There are many artist that would fall under the dubstep category that sound nothing alike take Flux pavillion and skrillex and zomboy and compare that to Skream and benga and big gigantic they sound very different. I think that when is well made its really good listening experience. Also, its gotta be loud!!!
AdSense 336x280September 5, 2013 at 12:51 pm #700142
buukwermParticipantIt’s a technical genre. Very structured. Very formulaic. I like it because I recognize the skill involved in its creation. It’s kind of like rock. However, I can’t listen to it continuously. I just like the overall genre because it’s really ushered in a period where people can actually make instrumental music. I love hip-hop (music) but most of the time I can’t stand the lyrics…producers put in mad effort on a beat only to have emcees desecrate their creations with stupid, stereotypical lyrics. I give dubstep credit for bringing masses of people into the whole instrumental community.

Thedemented1ParticipantDubstep is a cool genre and was definitely a big step in electronic music. However recently I feel like dubstep is dead. Nobody plays it anymore, and the drops just don’t have the same impact they used to. Will be a while until something fresh comes along, until then it’s just deep house these days.

YaytzzParticipantI still enjoy listening to dubstep sometimes if I’m by myself. Its not something that I’d like to hear if I go out at a venue or bar.
AdSense 336x280February 2, 2014 at 9:56 am #701828
ConorLorcanParticipantPretty tame genre, in terms of no forward direction

InjektParticipantA lot of the new "brostep" seems to be very overdone, and even more very poorly produced. I think a lot of teenagers are just hearing dubstep and saying "OMG I WANT TO MAKE THAT!" and getting their hands on a pirated copy of FL Studio and trying to copy Skrillex and Borgore. Yeah, it’s not as easy as it sounds, kiddo. But there is good stuff out there, honestly, even in the brostep arena. But I don’t really listen to brostep anymore, it’s gotten too stale for me. My favorite style is the minimal stuff, i.e. Truth, Subreachers, Seven. which is completely different from that. Really dark, with nice deep bass wobbles and an emphasis on percussion. And no mid range FM screams and growls, those get annoying after a while.
AdSense 336x280March 27, 2014 at 11:41 am #702311
coldwar RBParticipantI used to like it because it used to be nice and more organized but now with people like skrillex who have completely changed it to be random noises and yelling with lots of bass and random seemingly repetitive choruses and annoying stabs I have lost my appeal to the sound of dubstep.
AdSense 336x280May 11, 2014 at 10:32 pm #702651
MarcoEntrancedParticipantTotally agree with a lot of the comments posted already about how it’s overdone and frankly annoying!
On the other hand I find myself, as an "older" person listening to EDM, liking dubstep once in a while. Dare I say, maybe even a Skrillex track might get my brain firing
The once a year chance I get to play a set at a random party, I might try and throw in a dubstep tune just to switch things up. Then of course turn it back to my normal 128-138 BPM
But yeah, can’t imagine anything past 3-4 dubstep tracks in a row!!!
AdSense 336x280May 17, 2016 at 12:27 am #705318
jonscarsellaParticipantI really like dubstep….from a few years ago… I am waiting for something fresh to happen now. I appreciate the blending of house and dub that I am hearing lately but that is more because of my predilection towards house I think .

PabloFitzParticipantIt’s good for ‘Old man’ dancing, you know step to the off beat
