Your views on Dubstep?

Personally I feel that it is a misunderstood and misappropriated genre. IMO Skrillex et al is and are not dubstep. The original dubstep sound has been so hugely warped now that it doesn’t remotely resemble the original sound. This is why I think the ‘brostep’ categorisation is really functional to describe the new midrangey sound. I would recommend anyone who has mixed views on the sound and isn’t quite sure on what people mean when they say stuff like what I’ve just written to check out fabriclive.37 and tracks by people like horsepower productions and jay da flex’s future garage mix to understand the genre better in it’s early and in my eyes more defined stage. i.e. the garagey syncopation, shuffle and swing which has been completely lost recently

I like it, but I don’t think that it will supersede house music from clubs any time soon. it’s simply not danceable that well.

dubstep… i think its gotten big and that may bother some people just because its the new thing or whatever. Personally i like some of it and i like it a lot. There are many artist that would fall under the dubstep category that sound nothing alike take Flux pavillion and skrillex and zomboy and compare that to Skream and benga and big gigantic they sound very different. I think that when is well made its really good listening experience. Also, its gotta be loud!!!

Dubstep is a cool genre and was definitely a big step in electronic music. However recently I feel like dubstep is dead. Nobody plays it anymore, and the drops just don’t have the same impact they used to. Will be a while until something fresh comes along, until then it’s just deep house these days.

I still enjoy listening to dubstep sometimes if I’m by myself. Its not something that I’d like to hear if I go out at a venue or bar.

A lot of the new "brostep" seems to be very overdone, and even more very poorly produced. I think a lot of teenagers are just hearing dubstep and saying "OMG I WANT TO MAKE THAT!" and getting their hands on a pirated copy of FL Studio and trying to copy Skrillex and Borgore. Yeah, it’s not as easy as it sounds, kiddo. But there is good stuff out there, honestly, even in the brostep arena. But I don’t really listen to brostep anymore, it’s gotten too stale for me. My favorite style is the minimal stuff, i.e. Truth, Subreachers, Seven. which is completely different from that. Really dark, with nice deep bass wobbles and an emphasis on percussion. And no mid range FM screams and growls, those get annoying after a while.

Totally agree with a lot of the comments posted already about how it’s overdone and frankly annoying!
On the other hand I find myself, as an "older" person listening to EDM, liking dubstep once in a while. Dare I say, maybe even a Skrillex track might get my brain firing The once a year chance I get to play a set at a random party, I might try and throw in a dubstep tune just to switch things up. Then of course turn it back to my normal 128-138 BPM But yeah, can’t imagine anything past 3-4 dubstep tracks in a row!!!

It’s good for ‘Old man’ dancing, you know step to the off beat
