DecibelAlexParticipantAVG antivirus. Doesn’t hang your pc and it’s easy to use. I’ve been a satisfied user with the AVG free version since 5 years back

ChunkyEatsMyDinnerParticipantI heard bad things about AVG recently, tho when I was on PC (about 5 years ago) it was the one to have, much better than
all the paid ones in fact!Have a read through all the reviews at download.com, might help a little.

Tion LineParticipantI don’t get what an antivirus has to do with updating music programs? If you only go online to update your FL/Ableton/whatever then I would say don’t install any antivirus because you very probably won’t get any if you only visit their websites (and if someone is clever enough to ‘hack’ their website he won’t be stupid enough to place a wellknown virus/trojan which antiviruses would recognize).
However, the very best antivirus is brain.exe because every program has its strenghts and weaknesses and can’t and won’t protect you against everything.AdSense 336x280October 27, 2011 at 7:58 pm #689669
Krdza_93ParticipantI use Eset NOD and for me, it’s good

DecibelAlexParticipantAvg got me into some trouble lately. Let a virus trough probably and caused avg to show as inactive, couldn’t update it and re-installing didn’t help. After this my PC started bluescreening every 5min (usually when making something in FL) and my PC failed to start most of the time. It got stuck in a boot loop or then bluescreened at the starting windows screen.
Now I’ve installed Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro, a fast scan through the system files and found 4 trojans which avg wasn’t able to find. PC was working flawless again but then it started bluescreening as usual.
Found an option in Bios to turn drive write protection off = no more bluescreens. Maybe some virus that causes fake bluescreens? The error msg was different on every bluescreen.AdSense 336x280July 28, 2012 at 11:16 pm #694041

Kony2012Participantyour mum is a good antivirus
AdSense 336x280December 20, 2012 at 8:12 pm #696166
erosx2ParticipantI use malwarebytes as an anti-malware only, so I just do your occasional scan. And I use MSE(Microsoft security essentials) as an anti-virus, meaning I just leave that on all the time for real-time protectiong.
But you want to know the best of the best? It’s called…common sense

DJDynoParticipantCheck Avast.
It doesn’t slow down your pc like all the other programs.AdSense 336x280June 4, 2013 at 10:33 am #698847
BluntifiedParticipantI don’t use any. I use my music laptop for just that, music programs. If someone doesn’t visit malicious/suspicious sites or download files from unknown origins, you don’t need it at all. My other laptop, which I do all my internet related things on, uses AVG with real-time scanning disabled. If I download something, I’ll scan it before opening it. All in all, if you’re not doing "bad things" on the internet, you don’t need real-time antivirus protection.
Virus free since 1994, on Windows.

transc3ndParticipantAnswer: NONE
YOU DO NOT NEED AN ANTIVIRUS. It’s all one big marketing bullshit con. Yes there are virii out there, some very nasty ones. If you feel you are an imbecile who cannot discern between what is clearly a dodgy link trying to install a virus and what is not, then you probably need some sort of safeguard to make sure you don’t ruin your pc. However for anyone with half a brain… you need 3 things
1) good firewall
2) virus / adware / spyware REMOVAL software (emphasis on removal, I will explain why)
3) registry / internet cleanerOk point 1… if you have a good properly setup firewall, the virii can’t get in the first place (unless you let them in of course by doing something silly!). I use Comodo, it’s free and VERY twitchy. At first this will be annoying but once you’ve got all your main programs added to the Trusted list, it only pops up when something is going down on your pc. Touch wood, since I installed comodo, I have had no virus (6 years and counting).
Point 2… your much-vaunted Antiviruses such as Kaspersky, Norton etc are nothing more than a resource-hogging waste of your time. Not only that, but they deliberately make them convoluted and extremely difficult to cleanly and completely uninstall. Make sure you read the uninstallation instructions carefully before doing so. I guarantee though unless you are running a cray supercomputer, you will see a surprising increase in the speed across your computer once you remove the unnecessary bullshit hovering over your system like a fat succubus. I have ad-aware SE, malwarebytes anti malware, and super anti-spyware (free version, all these programs I’m describing are FREE, stop paying money to these bullshit antivirus companies). I run a scan with these once a month just to check nothing has got through for my own peace of mind. Remember to update them before scanning!
Point 3… much adware / crapware can be removed simply by flushing your internet files. I use ccleaner for this (again, free), it also has an excellent registry cleaner which will dramatically improve your PCs response times (as if the registry has lots of missing entries etc it will slow your computer down).
I really can’t emphasise enough how useless and pointless paid antivirus programs are. They exist for no other reason than to scaremonger people into thinking they must have it, it’s essentially a legal protection racket. It wouldn’t surprise me if half the virii out there were created merely to sustain the apparent need for such software. If you are especially concerned you’ve got a nasty, download the kaspersky scanner which will tell you if you have something. You can then look up the virus definition online which will tell you what steps you need to take to remove it.
Point 3…

WOLFofWisdomParticipantI use Microsoft Security essentials. Its free and i dont have to worry about getting the basic viruses out there. For the special viruses though (like tracking cookies) i use Advance system care pro 6. just have to run it everyday and my pc purrs like a kitten.
AdSense 336x280November 10, 2013 at 4:11 pm #700840
srb789ParticipantI don’t think it’s totally correct to say that simply avoiding dodgy sites negates the need for antivirus. Several times I’ve loaded (trusted) sites that I’ve visited for years only to be warned of a virus. Usually caused by JS or even adverts (look up hacks of some major advertising companies).
