LUMParticipantThat’s a problem I always have; its hard for me to part with a track and say, give it to a friend as a hip-hop beat, or make it into something more housey maybe, as a remix… I always have this fantasy in the back of my head that I could just make it into a song. Where do you guys draw the line/ have you ever thought about making song with your own vocals, or getting someone to come in and lay down vocals?

JuggernautParticipantDepends on the track i’m making. If it’s on the computer, it’s usually when i feel tired and like i’m hitting my head on a brick wall, then i switch to doing riffs and lyrics on the guitar.
Sometimes if i’m not feeling it i’ll leave it and comeback when i feel inspired. One thing that’s good to do is to leave a track when you really don’t want to let it go. then come back with fresh ears in a weeks time. You hear things you missed the first time round.

You have the right approach. If you have the idea in your head and can replicate at least 50% then you are doing well. It seems like you would like a vocalist on command (slave like (no offence) but the best thing to do would be to either lay down a melody to go with the flow of the track, or attempt to sing it yourself for the benefit of converting the melody later for a singer.
As soon as you start to become frustrated, bored, or completely empty, just stop, save and move on for a few days, weeks, even months. Then revisit when you’re ready. You will be surprised how good something sounds after a forgotten spell. You will be rejuvenated.

When im in the shower. The accoustics of my shower stall are amazing and make me sound great. I can imagine the brass and jazzy drums in the background when i sing Sinatra. Lovely………………never never change……….
Old post but what the hell,
"have you ever thought about making song with your own vocals, or getting someone to come in and lay down vocals?"
Yes to number 2. I have the list of singers i would love to have in my music. But im a lowercase g so i will have to wait til im an uppercase G. Most of them are sistas, pretty famous ones too.
