docdjParticipantso i got a normal myspace. i dj and produce remix tracks/mashups/etc. can i get a MySpace music account so I can upload my remixes using their myspace player and allow others to feature it on their page? I’ve seen many other DJs have a myspace music account and do just this. then of course, myspace promotes "their" DJs on the homepage (not sure what that means to be a myspace DJ).
do you need some sort of special permission to set up this type of account as a DJ and not an actual Artist?
i’m reluctant to just try and sign up due to this big warning on the music account sign up page:

Warning – MySpace Music accounts are for MUSICIANS, not fans. Uploading music you did not create is a violation of MySpace’s Terms of Use and may be against the law. If you are not the musician who created the song or that musician’s agent, do not upload it. Even if you lawfully own a copy of the music (for example, you bought the CD or downloaded it from an internet service), this does not give you permission to upload the music to MySpace. If you violate this rule, your account may be deleted. [/b:1leiyp92]How does this apply to DJS? your comments/help is much appreciated!

anisinaParticipantI think the main fundamental problem is… using the myspace player is only for musicians who have they’re own creativity over the work… ie. remix, mash-up etc… and that work is then stored using the myspace database.
You best, and simplest option, is to link to URL’s with a player, that will then have no connection to the myspace server (except for a link) where the files are stored on a site that allows it. All you are doing then, is just the same as using copyrighted images, as many people do.
If you go to acapellas4u’s myspace, and have a look at DJ Val’s space, you will see what I mean, and she has a link that will allow you to get a player.
Hope that helps.

thanks for the reply! not sure i understand. first you write that the player is only for the musicians who have their own creativity over the work (i take this to mean the actual artist singing/rapping the track). then, you write "ie. remix, mash-up" (i take this to mean that remix/mashup artists fall into your previously defined "musician" category.
for example, like these DJs have myspace music accounts:
[url:9iievqzy]http://www.myspace.com/djjohnnet[/url:9iievqzy]
[url:9iievqzy]http://www.myspace.com/djmashupfromdb[/url:9iievqzy]looks to be a regular remixer/mashup artists, like me. perhaps they purchased the rights to use the instrumentals/acapellas?

anisinaParticipantIf you interpret… ‘using the myspace player is only for musicians who have they’re own creativity over the work’ …in the terms that myspace means, this will cover anything that you are legally entitled, as a means of ‘additional production’ and ‘additional content’.
The real problem (just like the law as an whole) is the ‘grey’ areas that a judge could easily interpret as being on the side of the original copyright holder. This means you need to do something else.
If you want to use the myspace player, you are better using a different name, but one that people will still recognise. For example, ‘YMCA (In The Club) – docdj (feat. The People Village)’ which will likely avoid the ‘sweep of originals’ though you must have some acceptable input into your ‘published’ version to call it your own. And, in that sense, it should either be a… remix, mashup, or whatever, so long as it is not the original song/track etc… and not part of a DJ mix.
Hope that makes my views (of the myspace thing) clearer.
