DJ LevantParticipantAs the title say’s what was the first track that you ever remixed? And feel free to elaborate, why you chose that particular track for instance
From memory I believe mine was N-trance’s ‘Set You Free’. I had the single which came with the acapella and it is a good classic track. Today it is still one of my favourite tracks to play around with.
…Your turn.

juniorlazarouParticipantI think it was either the Sex Pistols "Pretty Vacant" or possibly the Clash "Rock the Casbah".
I lost all them tracks when my hardware crashed & burned and i had to press the factory reset function! I lost about 50 tracks, I was depressed for about 2 months after that, My whole GhettoTech & Jackin’ techno live set was lost! LOL!..AdSense 336x280March 16, 2008 at 4:38 pm #645546

ChunkyEatsMyDinnerParticipantIts hard to say/ remember. Set You Free was one of the mashups I actually recorded.
DJ Levant wrote:And feel free to elaborate… ok
I started doing all mashups live as when I got my 1st set of decks I had no computer or recording devices.
My 1st taste in what I would start to call a remix was buying a Pioneer standalone CD recorder and a Pioneer Minidisc recorder.
I learned that the MD allowed track positions to be added very accurately (pause it during playback, skip forwards or backwards like 1/32sec at a time and preview before you enter a track position)
This meant I could record the same piece of audio 4 times, edit it into tracks, delete the bits i dont want and have effectively created a seamless loop

Repeat the process for hours with different parts of a song and I had created long instrumental sections.
I would then play this back through the mixer and add an acapella from a turntable
The tracks were the B side remix of Nelly n Kelly – Dilemma and the acapella of P.Diddy – I need a girl (both on a 12").
Im sure I have copy of this somewhere, Ill post it up in the mashup section if I find it.This has made me smile so much remembering doing this, even tho the track was almost un-mixable due to the slight inaccuracies of the loops and the vocals not quite being perfect it still went down surprisingly well where I was playing.

[Edit] Yay, found it on an old CD;

The CutterParticipantI guess it depends on how we define remix. Before I ever heard of a mash-up I started collecting samples from various artists and remixing them together to make new instrumental mixes. This was around 2001 when I was perfecting my audio editing skills.
The first one of these cut up’s I did is titled "Booyaka"(I’m sure key wise it’s all over the place but it was a learning process) and included samples from the following:
Led Zeppelin, Sonic Youth, The Gypsy Kings, Midnight Oil, Madness, Frank Zappa, dialogue samples from the movie Billy Jack, various American Indian drums/chants, various jazz/blues artist samples, some sitar string orchestration and more stuff I can’t remember where I sampled from.
The first remix I did if you would call it a remix was Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young "Guinevere". It is titled "Her Eyes". This was done in 2001 as well and was more of an instrumental remix more than anything.

If you send me a link to your very first remix I will add it to your post for you. Sometimes I forget that I have the ability to do certain things that regular members can’t.

Cheers mate. Don’t know why I didn’t find it before, it was the first thing I ever seen on a CD with ‘acapella’ so had to check for it some time ago. Nay mind.

I’m ok C, don’t want anything embarrassing from my Amiga 600 days putting up.
Besides, the mpeg’s will spludge the tape hiss from the cassettes.
Then again, might be a decent topic. You know, show the young ones what had to be done 10 years ago.

jefpeaceParticipantI think my very first was using Tupak Shakur’s instrumental "Ambitions As A Rider" and Nas’s acapella "Mastermind."
The ‘why’s’ regarding my choice are rather simple … using parts of each title created a title that made sense. Seriously, the way I decide my mashup projects is purely by what the titles are and if I can make a new title from them.
AdSense 336x280March 23, 2008 at 1:07 pm #646157
DJ Bobby VParticipantThe first one I ever did was Shabba Rank’s Mr. Loverman. It was in the early ’90’s and I used an Akia DD1000 digital editor. Digital editing was in it’s early stages.I had an Akia sampler and an Ensoniq keyboard all locked together with midi. I had a Sony DAT deck that I mixed it down to through a Tascam 24 channel mixer. I also had 2 1200MKII’s in there. I ended up releasing it on my remix service that I owned called Pro-cuts. I released 3 two record sets then ran out of money.

[/quote:3mkld2wr]Did you bother to listen to the two tracks I’ve posted? There is nothing spectacular about either of them. I think it’s a cool idea to hear some of the first stuff members have created. It only goes to show how much a person has improved since their infancy into production.
Although anything I create now or in the future will probably sound the same as my earlier stuff. I refuse to grow up.
