ReeceCadenzaParticipantHaha. School. Work. Family. All adds up to stress. I’m sure any producer with stress-filled with white noise-, are not as creative than ones who aren’t stressed out!
Maybe it’s stress or not when it comes to the Writer’s Block. But! I want to know your random "cures" from the Writer’s Block! For me, it’s about eating ice cream. Love it when I get those brain freezes. Especially cookies n cream. It relaxes my mind with the brain freeze for some odd reason!..
What’s your cure? ;P Does it help with writing better tunes at the end? Or would it still be blah? Haha.
Thanks!

thirstParticipantI like to just pound on the keys for a while and if nothing comes do something different for a bit and come back and try again. Or drugs, that works too.
AdSense 336x280April 28, 2013 at 6:59 pm #698262
backdraftproductionsParticipantOnly one or two times I hit a block and was able to just work through it. normally I just stop for a while and come back later. What I also found helpful is listening to other people’s music or listening to old school jazz or soul music.

transc3ndParticipantIce cream, haha that’s definitely a unique one! For me I find listening to a totally different genre of music for a bit, going for a walk, or sometimes (and I know this will sound like a huge cliche) I smoke a joint. Not everyone’s cup of tea but certainly gets my creative juices flowing.

icdigitalParticipantat times I might spend weeks on a writer’s block, then all of a sudden I get back to writing again, just like magic
AdSense 336x280May 4, 2013 at 10:26 pm #698425
ombudsmanParticipanttry recreating somebody else’s track, or a section of it, from scratch. then change parts of it, and keep changing it until you’ve got your own thing.
AdSense 336x280May 24, 2013 at 11:15 pm #698695
Noise MakerParticipantI usually end up listening other artists music(celldweller, pendulum, knife party, varien, rockman) and then I try to mix a few different elements from each one of em(such as their unique noises that I try to recreate in NI Massive and FM8) and I usually end up getting new ideas afterwards

CuddlesDragonioParticipantI find one things that helps me through block is creating new sounds I’d like to use in future projects. Usually after a while, I’ll create a sound I like, and build off of that. Other times I work on my theory and try to implement that knowledge into a song to the best of my ability. Although the most good you can do for a block is step away and just live life for a while, it seems.
AdSense 336x280June 4, 2013 at 8:32 am #698845
niallspenceParticipantI’ve never had writer’s block when creating mashups but when making my own music I often use the tactic of recreating the drum beat of a song I really like and improvising and overdubbing tracks from there.
AdSense 336x280June 26, 2013 at 11:40 pm #699177
earthwormyepParticipantI forget about music COMPLETELY, don’t listen to anything, and just do something else you enjoy. Could be reading, looking at art, going for a walk, listening to a lecture, etc

itsmejoshzParticipanttake a break and listen to music you like. or just take a break from music completely for a few hrs.
AdSense 336x280October 29, 2013 at 11:55 pm #700735
Fifth-ParticipantTake a walk and a breath of fresh air.
I know it’s cliche, but it really refreshes you. You don’t have to look hard for inspiration if you let yourself get inspired by what’s around you.

DonatusParticipantIf you can’t come up with anything on the guitar try playing with the piano, if the piano doesn’t work try a synth if that doesn’t do it for you try using a keyboard and some virtual instruments, if that doesn’t work try using another midi controller. Try creating your own sound or try creating some drum tracks. How about creating your own snares and claps by combining sounds or modifying them. Compete in a remix contest. You always have options, the hard part for me is moving from one option to another. I highly respect ableton live for it’s take on making music because it seems like there so many different ways to go about it. They also seem to have a huge support base. I hope that helps.

AdSense 336x280April 6, 2014 at 1:47 pm #702384
servicecrewParticipantI leave the track or lyric alone for a week, sometimes longer and do all the things I like that are not related. Watch sports on TV, go to cinema, movies with girl and kids and so on and then when I am ready go back.

CosferParticipantJust write, even if it’s bad that way ideas will flow. Or you could just take a break
AdSense 336x280May 9, 2014 at 4:17 am #702629
CosferParticipantI write, even if if it’s not that good to keep ideas flowing
AdSense 336x280May 10, 2014 at 6:40 pm #702643
devlargeParticipantI come to this site, get an acapella and remix the song. The lead melody from the vocal is already there, so I might alter the scale and go with it. Yes, I currently have a creative block; hence my presence here…
AdSense 336x280September 18, 2014 at 4:17 am #703314
yotitosanParticipantHonestly, taking a shower works!
AdSense 336x280September 18, 2014 at 6:25 am #703319
Alien_MindParticipantLike most people say, just continue to write music and push through it. Even if I think it’s bad lol. I usually start with melodies and go from there. Also finding a good acapella to remix with helps too!
yotitosan wrote:Honestly, taking a shower works!^ And it’s hard to argue with that aswell
