JuggernautParticipantnot really.
Thing is, it’s quite likely your current programs aren’t "Vista-Compatible" hence the glitches…i’d go to the software developer websites and check if there are upgrade/maintenance versions available to make them more compatible with the new windows OS.
and then probably do some ‘googling’ as to whether there are other people who are in your situation but managed to find some handy work arounds whilst on Vista.

djboomerParticipantJuggernaut, you found me again.i think im gonna go ahead and down grade(i hope i don’t regret it)right now i just don’t have the financial means to upgrade all my software.so i’ll take a step backwards and see if i have any luck.
i’ll report back,thanks.

jefpeaceParticipantYou’re doing what I’d recommend. I bought a new Dell desktop two months ago that came with Vista Ultimate and I ended up going back to XP ‘cuz of compatibility issues with Corel and ProTools … I can live without ProTools ‘cuz Magix Music Maker does everything I need to do but I can’t live without Corel.

avalonandonParticipantI read years ago, and have stuck with, that you should always wait a good nine months to a year with ANY software upgrade so that all the kinks can be ironed out. Otherwise you end up spending more in time and/or money.

aj-smsParticipantMicrosoft want to control all the protocols and eliminate asio and introduce there own version which has been frowned upon by manufacturers and the end users. One of the concerns is microsoft want to add greater copy protection (of audio and video files) and will result in a multitude of hoops the end user has to jump through to get to work. Vista is currently unproven within audio and video environments and stability is questionable. XP (when the crap is trimmed away) is proven and stable and many professionals use the platform and report equal or better reliability than their mac and that is my experience too. Currently Vista is in no way a consideration for audio and video production. Its only 50/50 for general usage as its disappointingly poor.

BrewmachineParticipantim running vista now n for a long time ive been thinking of going back to xp…. ive managed to get all my programs working but cubase is running at a snails pace and eventually i uninstalled it cause it was too frustrating to work with, other programs work but are unstable and often lock up or display error messages… i have to say i am totally unimpressed with vista, bring bk XP!

But did you know that Vista also allows you to Run programs in Compatibility mode? Just right click the .exe’s shortcut or actual file & click on Properties, you’ll see a Compatibility tab there, go ahead and check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and then choose your OS from the drop down menu. It has Windows Server 2003 all the way back to Win95.
Hope this has helped anyone who has had similar problems when upgrading to Vista. And also, remember, Vista uses more of your CPU than XP does/did, so if things are running a little slower and more jumpier then that might be why too, the same goes for your RAM.

jefpeaceParticipantotg wrote:I remember Windows 3.1 being an amazing step up from DOS -whistful sigh-Man, that took me back … Win 3.11 for Workgroups was the last stable os I remember MS releasing, and even it needed some tweaks before audio was possible.
The lab I worked in whilst’ in college was one of the test sites when IBM and MS were working together on OS2 … it’s a crying shame that fell through ‘cuz even the test copies we were given were light years ahead of Windows.
With that said, yes I still prefer pc over mac so

With any new computer, vista will run fine, and most programs have caught up and are compatible. If you’re upgrading from XP and your computer doesn’t have the minimum requirements, it’ll be slow.AdSense 336x280February 20, 2008 at 11:34 pm #643828
DJPlayboiParticipantA lot of people are hating on vista, but Ive been using it since it came out and no problems at all except with a few programs. I say its a great Operating System.

gumdrop32ParticipantTo be honest with you, vista and xp are almost the same except for the desktop in vista and registry. Other than that, it’s pretty much the same.
