DJ ValParticipantHey there. Please can somebody help me find the answer to another wierd question I have.
I’m trying to clear some space up on my hard drive. I am uninstalling some of the programmes that I don’t really use anymore. These include Sony Acid 5 and Sound Forge 8. However, most of the Sony plugins are comaptible in the programmes that I do use still.
My question is, is it possible to be able to move the plugins from the Sony programmes into my main plugins folder? It appears that when I installed the Sony programmes, the plugins went into thier own folder within Sony and not into my main plugins folder. When I select to use a plugin in one of the programmes I still use, a sh!tload of Sony plugins appear but they are not in my main plugin folder. Please can you advise which way would be the best way to move the Sony plugins, Should I "move" them to my main plugin folder then uninstall Sony or is it possible to "copy the Sony plugins into my main plugin folder. Or would I still have to have the Sony programmes installed in order for the plugins to work?AdSense 336x280June 17, 2006 at 10:57 pm #591741

In SilicoParticipantVal, that’s a good question, but for the most part I think the answer is ‘No’. If you uninstall all of your Sony Media Software programs, their plugins will be removed as well. What you would need to worry about would be the registry though. If you uninstall the main software, it would remove the plugin registration keys in the registry, and they would revert to demo mode.
One thing you could try is copying your HKLM>Software>Sony Media Software registry folder, and your HKCU>Software>Sony Media Software reg folder, and uninstalling, then pasting those folders back into your registry. This should maintain your plugin registration. Also, if you copy C:\Program Files\Sony\Shared Plug-ins to another folder before uninstalling, this should let you keep your plugins.

DJ ValParticipantThank you so much for your replies. I’m not currently producing any tracks, and am desperate to free some space as I mentioned. I however enjoy using the sony plugins with my mixing software. I’ll give this a go and let you know.
Take care
Val.P.S. How you doing Rob. Long time no chat!!!
