LuminanceParticipantHey Everyone,
I just wrote this jam and I’m having a problem with the low end when I play it in my car. I have a 12" sub that gets way too much action from the bass and the kick. It plays as expected though in my studio. Any suggestions regarding that or anything else would be appreciated. Thanks!

JuggernautParticipantFirst issue would be your monitors. if they’re set to flat response (no boosting or cutting of any frequencies) then they’re ok. It could also be that the bass you’ve got can’t be handled by your monitors so if you’re not playing your track out too loud you won’t notice it as far as the bass goes, but you should notice some distortion anyway.
Next issue would be your car. Have you got any eq settings to your in-car system that boosts/amplifies the signal sent to your sub? for example if you’ve got a cross-over between your sub and your amp, it would be wise to tweak that a bit as it may be on the bass heavy side.
If it sounds 100% perfect in the studio…and if you played it off an mp3 player into some headphones…and your mates hi-fi on a different set of speakers. i’m 100% sure it’s down to how you’ve got your sub-woofer config’d in your car.

Try putting a low shelf/ high pass EQ on the track.
Cut all frequencies below around 40-50Hz. My opinion is these frequencies are not worth their addition to the data rate in dance tracks.AdSense 336x280August 6, 2007 at 9:53 pm #630619
MidarezakiParticipantI rather like this track
As for the bass, it feels lighter on the bass than I’d have expected to be honest.. perhaps you’ve got the bass channel on your car stereo WAY up too high?In comparison I’m currently playing my remix of a fair bit as I’m being utterly insane and making an anime music video to go along with it! The bass in this (at least to me) seems far heavier than your track.

LuminanceParticipantI’m thinking that everyone is correct in saying that my system might be configured for excess bass. However, I’d like to be able to keep my song as cross-platform friendly as possible. Chunky, would a filter work for cutting off all the low frequencies or should I just cut it back with EQ?

Cragger0ParticipantWhen I listen to this music I think of Sash (encore une fois). Nice!

Chunky, would a filter work for cutting off all the low frequencies or should I just cut it back with EQ?I would try straight forward EQ using Low cut/ Lo shelve/ High pass etc. Many
different names for essentially the same thing.I have just turned the track up (which I think is very good BTW) and am hearing a
lot of low frequencies on my monitors, starting around 1:20min in.1 thing to always remember, 9/10 sound systems you hear in day to day life
produce very colourful sounds. HiFi’s and entertainment systems have an array
of ‘enhancements’ like EQ presets, ‘Loudness On/Off’ etc.
Car headunits alike, the default EQ setting is usually something boosted, BBE,
Bass enhancer etc.
Systems that boast flat frequency responces are in reality, just a reference to
work from, you are unlikely to hear your track sound like that again! You hit the nail on the head tho by trying it out on different systems. Always have
a listen on a a crappy mass produced car stereo, (handy if you have a Ford
Mondeo laying around for this!) If your track go’s big, this will be the type of
system 90% of people will be listening to it on.AdSense 336x280November 9, 2007 at 2:25 am #636808
