Tyrant2424ParticipantI’m looking at buying a synth board and was wondering if anyone has any feedback. I’m using it for hip hop and r&b. I like the real fat abrasive synths like timbo uses.

funkybeatsParticipantWhat sort of price are you looking at, we’ll be able to suggest something in your price range then.

Tyrant2424ParticipantPrice range under 1k. I have the triton pro, roland 909, mpc 1000. Looking more at the racks or boards w/o sequencer. Did some research on the Nord. Reviews look pretty good. Anyone have this or used it? Wanted to stay away from the Motif just because it’s about as popular as the Triton. Something that has a lot of versatility on customizing your sounds.

funkybeatsParticipantPersonally if I had the money right now to spend on 2 synths then it would be the Access Virus C and Nord Lead 2. The Virus C you could probably get for about £700(?) and a Nord Lead 2 for about the same price second hand.
Thought about looking in Computer Music magazine? Or asking around on KVR Audio? KVR would be a good place to start.
p.s. What Nord do you mean?

WailyParticipantVIRUS!

DreamscapeParticipantWell at pre owned prices you can pick up a Access Virus C for around £500-£600 maybe even less if you get a good deal!
A Virus B is pretty much the same and can be bought for around £300, ive owned both and the ONLY differences are more voices, 2 more modulation slots, internal EQ and moog style filters.. oh yeah and the front panel is set out different
Dont bother with the TI, its vastly over priced and does little extra compared to the B or C considering the price gap
So its down to you to decide if the extra cash is worth it
Also Clavia Nord Lead is a great synth, I would recomend the 1 or 2. (£300-350 used)
Dont bother with the 2X or 3, they changed the components and these newer models sound weaker than the originals, plus they cost twice as muchAlso check out Waldorf Q & MicroQ, Roland JP-8000 & JP-8080 and Novation A-Station
If you want really powerful sounding VA emulations of classics like the Moogs and Prophets. the best are made by Creamware.. Check out the Minimax!

mike001ParticipantIf you cant afford that try z3ta or sylenth1.
They are both Great vsti synths.

funkybeatsParticipantDreamscape how much would a second hand JP-8080 cost me? I’ve always wanted one.
Virus B or C + JP-8080 + Nord Lead 2 is my dream setup as far as hardware synths go.

DreamscapeParticipantFunkybeats thats also my dream setup hehe
Ive been watching JP’s on ebay and SOS forums.. between £350 and £450 – private sellers on SOS always want more than ebay prices
