streaming "audio out" over local network

hey how do you stream everything in audio out over the network?

basically i have a laptop connected to my surround on the bottom level of my house, but i want to control/play music from my desktop at the top.

Can’t you simply access your desktop PC’s drives (and therefore the files on them) from your laptop over a (wireless) network instead of trying to stream the audio itself?

i concur with dj shades…..use a program like PC Anywhere to access your computer upstairs from the comp downstairs over the internet. it’ll work easily

Try for how to set up streaming media over a network using VLC Media player… I’ve not tried it, but it shouldn’t be too tough to set up, the instructions look quite simple.
