YepImTheToasterParticipantHi, I’m an armchair mashup enthusiast who loves music. I have a cool little story to go with my mashup here, explaining the amazing way it was created.
One night I was on YouTube listening to music, when I came across a Paramore song I had never heard of in the side suggestion area. It was called Monster, and I clicked on it to check it out.
In the side suggestions of that video, I saw another song titled ‘Monster’ by the band Skillet. I had heard of this band before and knew they were very popular. I wanted to check out the song and see what this band was all about, but got distracted and on to other things, so I never got the chance.
Fast forward to me sleeping later that night. I had a dream where I was listening to a song that was familiar to me. I realized in the dream that it was ‘Animal I Have Become’ by the band Three Days Grace. But there was something distinctly different about it. I noticed they kept saying Monster in the song instead of Animal, and the lyrics were somewhat different. I then came to a realization in the dream that this was a different version of the song, sung by the band Skillet. I thought the song was amazing when I heard it in the dream, and this is all I really remember.
Upon waking the next morning, I remembered the dream, and it reminded me that I never got to check out that ‘Monster’ song by Skillet. So I popped onto YouTube to check it out, a part of me wondering with intrigue if it would sound at all like ‘Animal I Have Become’.
My jaw dropped when I did listen to it, and the song was so similar to the Three Days Grace song that I had to pull both songs up to watch/listen to them one after the other, back and forth. I couldn’t believe what I dreamed about the night before was happening now in real life, the next morning! It really blurred the line between dream and waking life for me, in a good way. I vowed to make a mashup of these two songs, but gave up the attempt when I couldn’t find an instrumental or acapella of ‘Animal I Have Become’.
Some weeks later, I decided to search again, and found somewhere in the depths of the internet an instrumental of ‘Animal I Have Become’, and I quickly got to work. This was one of the more fluid experiences I had making a mashup, as the songs had exact same pitch, tempos were similar, and the lyrics went hand in hand at every line. This was a layup. I added in a line at the end of song from a trailer for a movie called ‘Monster’ saying "when I was little I had a lot of dreams" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vq70brIQP40#t=0m11s) and it was finished.
So long story short, this is the most popular mashup I’ve ever made (though that’s not saying much), and I tell people it was created in a dream. Now you know what I mean when I say this. Here it is:

My favorite comment someone made of my mashup that puts a twinkle in my eye is this one: "…holy shit this a dream come true"
