The_reverendParticipantI’m having a few problems with my Laptop and want to reinstall Windows XP so I can get it back to how it was when I first bought it. The problem is, when I bought the Laptop from Dell, Windows XP was pre installed and they didn’t send me a disc. My question is, if I downloaded or borrowed a copy from someone and used my product ID that is on the bottom of my laptop, is this legal? I’ve been told that when you buy windows, you don’t actually pay for the program, you are actually paying for the licence (which I still have the product key for.) is this correct?
Mods if this question isn’t allowed, just delete it.
Cheers

anisinaParticipantYeah, you only buy the licence for that ‘machine’ so to speak.
There will be an hidden recovery partition on you hard drive. It’s a while since I did one, so i’m not 100% sure how you go through the procedure. Allthough, I seem to remember having to press F11 or something and it then gives you the options of formatting and re-installing etc…
A browse of google for "hidden partition" or "recovery partion" will give you some clues.

The_reverendParticipantCheers Anisina. I’ll have a look for that. There is about 7Gb of hard drive missing on my computer so it may be hidden somewhere.
