HiBeats ProductionsParticipantIf you enter a remix comp headed by the label of the original song and afterwards they release your remix on one of their own CDs (wether that was part of the prize or not), do you get any royalties?
I was thinking you’d get co-writers royalties along with whoever wrote the original song. For example if the original song was written by Mr A and Mr B, they would both get 25% of the royalties for each sale of the original song under a standard agreement (the publishing company gets the other 50% as I understand it). Now if your remix was distributed on a single CD for arguments sake, the publishing company would get 50%, Mr A, Mr B and yourself would each get 16.66% as co-writers.
Is that the correct understanding? ^
I think some remix comps have conditions that all the remixes submitted are automaticly property of the record label heading the comp, but to me it seems that the RCs are pretty tight to keep all the sales for themselves.

DJ LevantParticipantDon’t take my word completely, but regarding remix comp’s you should always read the entry terms & conditions which should tell you everything you need to know.
From what I’ve seen from record label/artist & track specific comp’s you will probably not get royalties, they would often say that your remix featuring on their single is excellent exposure and a good enough prize.AdSense 336x280March 28, 2009 at 11:54 am #665987
Reggie_p75ParticipantI’ve entered a few competitions (some at http://www.acidplanet.com) over the yrs and read the T&Cs to find wot u submitted was the property of the record company, once in their possession, to use as they pleased and whilst there were prizes, u received no royalties and got nothing but the kudos for getting ur mix recognised… Doesn’t go for all the competitions but check wots the prizes r b4 running in..
Now once u’ve won the comp n got ur prizes n NO royalties, u can take that as a bullet in the back or a step on the ladder.. take ur pick..
Bitch about slogging ur guts out for a poxy piece of software/sample pack or use that kudos of remixing ________ n plonk it all over MySpace n similar media entities..

HiBeats ProductionsParticipantYes I understand that now. I guess you do get quite good exposure. I wish more remix comps would give money prizes instead of software/samplepacks etc.
