The CutterParticipantI was just wondering what everyone does when dealing with making key corrections. How do you do it, what programs do you use and what little tricks have you learned.
The example would be when you have an imental or custom beat but the acapella you are using is in a different key. I do not have a problem finding out what key they are both in. There are many resources for this but once you know what they are how do you go from there. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hey thanks for the input. I do understand exactly what you are saying and I will give it a try. This will give me something to experiment with.
I have been doing some research on programs and I came across something called MELODYNE. It looks pretty interesting. I am going to download the demo and see what it is really capable of. Has anyone ever used this program and is it worth the money?

playmakerParticipantMelodyne is THE vocal correction (pitch shit / time strech ) program. I bought a copy a couple of months ago after trying out a version, and I have to say that this is the one of the best investement i’ve done in a long time!
It has features like getting the vocalnotes to MIDI notes (ie. you can get a synth to play along with the vocal) , adjusting vibrato, and of course the standard pitch correction / shifting . It’s very easy to create harmonies(choirs) aswell. Good thing is also that you can hook it up with your host so you can check it in your arrangement on-the-fly.

playmakerParticipantS.T,
yes , it’s not working in realtime though, ie. you can not sing in the mic and get the notes straight away, if that’s what you are after. (I remember some older application that did that , that I had a lot of fun with, must be like 4-5 years ago though)
You can export the notes to a MIDI file, or load up a VSTi in Melodyne. I haven’t experimented with this that much, so maybe i’m missing out some functions here too.

The CutterParticipantPlaymaker thanks for the good review of Melodyne. I am even more intrigued.
Update: After really checking out the specs and functions of Melodyne (especially the high end version) this sounds like a very very very useful tool and has almost limitless creative potential. If it’s abilities to alter sound are as good as it suggests then software developers are not far from creating the ideal acapella creation utility. Better than anything that’s out today.
