CrimsonSunParticipantWhere do you guys get yours? I produce house and trance, and I cannot find any samples I like. Any advice?

Ro-ManParticipantAs an aspiring Hip-Hop producer I get most of my drums from old Funk and Rock songs.
Check out the beginning of Himy Hendrix – Little Miss Lover for some wild drum samples. Though they might not be the sound you are looking for in a house beat.
Maybe you could go looking for some 80’s soul and funk songs, as I remember having seen some on youtube which have certainly been sampled for house tracks.AdSense 336x280April 30, 2013 at 8:10 pm #698302
hansausbremenParticipantHi,
I use the samples that come with reason5 and kong for my production of electronic music.
There is a broad spectrum of samples – maybe you like some of them.Best,

ombudsmanParticipantbuy a quality sample pack. thomas penton’s essential series should suit your needs… a lot of people like the Vengeance samples… or buy NI Battery, which comes with a pretty good library.

clearybuzzParticipantyou want a sample pack or drum kit for a tr-808 and tr-909… most house/techno songs use these and then modify them to sound unique to the track

Firstly, admirable though sampling 70s/80s records may be if you’re writing anything breaks-based, this is so not the way to go for drum sounds if you’re writing modern dance music (if you really want authentic 80s dance drums get your hands on a drum machine or use a vst although the hardware will of course sound better). You need your sounds to be BIG, unfortunately sounds from the 80s and beyond will not measure up ‘in the mix’ with samples from modern collections.
I’ve got to give another shout for Vengeance Essential Clubsounds. In fact the entire Vengeance catalogue is a must-have for ANY dance producer. For uplifting trance, VEC3 is awesome (especially the kicks, you will hear those amazing trance kicks you’re prob struggling to create and have a major "aha" moment). If you’re after more progressive trance-themed samples, check out Mutekki Media Bigroom Tools, also any of the Vengeance Electro series (VEH1/2, VES1/2). The Thomas Penton series is also pretty good but doesn’t measure up in terms of sound quality imo, although the percussion loops are very useable.
Good luck with your search!

acapellaKeymasterDon’t forget that we have our very own SamplePacks forum forum40.html – There’s a huge ‘kits’ sample-pack in there.
For the guy wanting AlunaGeorge, err.. sample from the track(s) if you can find a clean enough section. Modify to your add your own twist, job done!
