Frank-E-666ParticipantHey ppl, seeing as this is an acapella site ive been wondering…
wots the process behind sending a remix as a demo to a label?
protecting my original tracks was simple enough, but surely i cant do the same for a remix can i?
i am just worried that if i dont, some1 can just yoink em away from me n claim as theirs if im not careful with these things, as had happened here locally, i give some1 a remix on a cd to listen to, n the next day sum1 else has made loadsa copies n claimed it as his…so anyway, thought that if any1 would know about this, it would be some1 here
cheers evry1

DJ Bobby VParticipantThe easiest way is to put a tag in the song. Do a search of this..there’s a topic about this already with great advice in it.

otgParticipantThe most basic copy protection is to burn the track to a cd and post the cd to yourself. Provided you don’t open the envelope, it’s evidence you produced the music first.

Frank-E-666Participantye thats wot ive done for my original tracks that i intend in sending out, but can that be done for remixes too??

njslipmatParticipantRemixes are kind of a gray area. Technically you didn’t create it and the original artists, and anyone sampled are going to have to release it for your use so without a formal release you can’t really have any way of protecting it. I white label anything I remix with "for promotional use only". Since I can’t make any money from it. But neither can someone else without the proper releases. You’ll always have the risk that someone with no morals will try and say they made it but after all, it’s a remix.

Frank-E-666Participantye man i hear that. lets face it, if anyones going to make it they would rather do it with original tracks than with remixes. atleast thats how i think

jefpeaceParticipantWhen you burn a cd the files are permanently and unalterably dated by the computer … just keep the first disc you burn and that’s all the proof you need.

Your opinion has been noted. Look in the other copyright thread for my opinion. Short rebuttal is that both methods "work" as well as the one you suggest without the extra hassle.
