ordioParticipantDoes anyone know any people / companies within the UK that are good for mastering and pressing up a run of white labels, probably 200 – 300?
This is the first time i’ve ever been down this route and it’s a bloody headache. Spent yesterday on the phone with companies going through prices with me and now i’m even more confused
Any help would be amazing

Hi Ordio.
I’m fortunate enuff to have a team who just do it all for me and I don’t pay them a thing.
I can’t at this time offer you direct links to companies or contacts but what I would say is that if it’s breaks in anyway then they might be interested in working it for you.
If this is possibly something that interests you and your tune does well – you WILL see a return $£$£ for your track selling.. is it a cheeky smaples track then or a mashup kind of thing?

ordioParticipantThanks for the reply acapella. Me and a friend are aiming to put a 2 track white label which is like house / funk house. It’s a remix of Beyonce & Jay-Z Crazy in love and Inaya Day’s Hold your head up high.
Just kinda showcasing the production skills.

ordioParticipantOh shit! thanks for the info S.T. Didn’t know it was such a nightmare to get it sorted out. I’d heard from someone about not using inhouse mastering facilities and having it done somewhere other than the pressing plant. I also tightened up the bottom end of the mix and just expanded the top end for clarity and got quite a nice sound, but of course that still might not be good enough. I’ll have to plump up the cash to go have it mastered specifically for vinyl by the looks of it.
Thanks for taking the time. You’ve kinda stopped me from rushing with it.

MelParticipantST…I even learned something new. Thanks for the info, especially on the running time issue.
What info can you provide on colored vinyl. I’m in the process of getting some tracks pressed up, and, based on my album design, I wanted the vinyl itself to be a see-through red. I’ve seen this done before…really one time with Redman’s “Funkorama” vinyl single. It was green.
Does coloring a vinyl, or that material, determine how the track(s) should be mastered?
Peace

hiphopfanParticipantI’m sure it’s not the case nowadays but certainly with the Public Enemy “Night Train” 12″ picture disc from 1992, it does actually say “sound quality of this picture disc may not be comparable to that of a conventional disc” although it doesn’t on the 10″ picture disc version of “Bring the Noise” !!

^ there pretty cool and very cheap
i cant find the website for music house but i used them 5 or 6 times and highly recommend them – 02088082571
dont worry too much about the mastering, i would say go with in house mastering, music house have done a top job with my tracks, the most important aspect is to make sure all the tracks are similar levels etc cos the pressing house may be sloppy and master all the tracks the same as the 1st one they do (quite common)
one thing i find is mastering removes loads of treble from my drums so makes sure there nice and crisp first or they sound flat
you looking at £500ish, pretty much costs the same for 200 or 500 white, so u might aswell do 500
labels is an extra couple of hundred on that
colour vinyls is a fair wack more but does not effect the sound quality.

ordioParticipantThanks ddouble and ed for your recent comments. I think we’ve pretty much decided on going with a company called Hilton Grove in London. They sent us some tp’s and they sound pretty damn good
