22AParticipantOk, I’m going to let you all in on a little secret. I am a gym nut. I absolutely love lifting weights, both for training for sport and for the cathartic effect I get from it (case in point – the All Blacks losing last week led to me squatting until I couldn’t walk anymore). Anyway, I have a problem with concentration when I’m trying to do any sort of cardio work – running, jogging, cycling etc and to combat this I listen to music – the heavier the better.
Now I’m sure that there are a few of you out there who hit the gym regularly (if C-Squared’s avatar is anything to go by), so I put it to you – what music do you crank in the gym? What do you play when you need to push yourself just that little bit further? Throw me a top ten, top five, whatever you like. I’m interested to see what you all get into.
When I was back at school I used to listen to heavy rock, but I just can’t do it anymore, it’s got to be hip-hop or nothing. Right now, my top ten (in a rough order) would go a little something like this:
[*:1zjqspzk]Till I Collapse – Eminem[/color:1zjqspzk][/*:m:1zjqspzk]
[*:1zjqspzk]Mark Henry’s theme song from WWE – Three Six Mafia[/color:1zjqspzk][/*:m:1zjqspzk]
[*:1zjqspzk]Fuck the world – 2pac[/color:1zjqspzk][/*:m:1zjqspzk]
[*:1zjqspzk]Chincheck – NWA[/color:1zjqspzk][/*:m:1zjqspzk]
[*:1zjqspzk]Hello – NWA[/color:1zjqspzk][/*:m:1zjqspzk]
[*:1zjqspzk]Stoplight – Snoop Dogg[/color:1zjqspzk][/*:m:1zjqspzk]
[*:1zjqspzk]Hit em up – 2pac[/color:1zjqspzk][/*:m:1zjqspzk]
[*:1zjqspzk]Go to sleep – Eminem, Obie Trice and DMX[/color:1zjqspzk][/*:m:1zjqspzk]
[*:1zjqspzk]Welcome to Detroit city – Eminem and Trick Trick[/color:1zjqspzk][/*:m:1zjqspzk]
[*:1zjqspzk]When we ride on our enemies – 2pac[/color:1zjqspzk][/*:m:1zjqspzk][/list:o:1zjqspzk]Those top two will pull me out of any slump at all. Seriously, some good motivation right there.
Anyway, tell me, Beatheads, what do you listen to in the gym?I whipped up this to represent the question visually if anyone can’t read…

DJ LevantParticipant22A so we’ve got another thing in common. I’ve been really getting into the weights this year. Put in a home gym for extra rugby league training.
I usually just play whatever dance/trance/house/NRG tracks that I’ve recently gotten or I’m into at the moment. Sorta reward myself by playing the tracks I’m dying to hear. But some of my fav artists for training to is the dance tracks with a heavier beat like Brooklyn Bounce, Pulsedriver, Nick Skitz, Scooter.
Also you can’t forget the classic Rocky tunes. I dug up the ‘Rocky Story’ soundtrack from my collection and have been known to pump it whilst doing weights.. ‘No Easy Way Out’, ‘Gonna Fly Now’, ‘Eye of the Tiger’

22AParticipantOh I hear that. ‘Gonna fly now’ is one of the best songs ever. Especially if you’re a Rocky fan.

JuggernautParticipantmy own mixes usually 130bpm plus if it’s mid-week including hockey training (i listen to music whilst training in goal during field hockey training) if it’s out of season training it’s usually a very unconventional mix of breaks and DnB. that’s the only way i can push myself up to level 13 on them damn treadmills without thinking "what the hell are you doing, you’re going to lose it and almost break your ankle again".
then again, i don’t go to the gym as often as i used to anymore…do Capoeira instead….covers ALL SORTS of bpm’s in a very short span of time if you’re up for it

anisinaParticipantI feel a song coming on…
[i:6vzm9t49]Young man, there’s no need to feel down.
I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground.
I said, young man, ’cause you’re in a new town
There’s no need to be unhappy.Young man, there’s a place you can go.
I said, young man, when you’re short on your dough.
You can stay there, and I’m sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time. It’s fun to stay at the y-m-c-a.
It’s fun to stay at the y-m-c-a.They have everything for you men to enjoy,
You can hang out with all the boys …It’s fun to stay at the y-m-c-a.
It’s fun to stay at the y-m-c-a.You can get yourself cleaned, you can have a good meal,
You can do whatever you feel …Young man, are you listening to me?
I said, young man, what do you want to be?
I said, young man, you can make real your dreams.
But you got to know this one thing! No man does it all by himself.
I said, young man, put your pride on the shelf,
And just go there, to the y.m.c.a.
I’m sure they can help you today. It’s fun to stay at the y-m-c-a.
It’s fun to stay at the y-m-c-a.They have everything for you men to enjoy,

It’s fun to stay at the y-m-c-a.You can get yourself cleaned, you can have a good meal,
You can do whatever you feel …Young man, I was once in your shoes.
I said, I was down and out with the blues.
I felt no man cared if I were alive.
I felt the whole world was so tight …That’s when someone came up to me,
And said, young man, take a walk up the street.
There’s a place there called the y.m.c.a.
They can start you back on your way. It’s fun to stay at the y-m-c-a.
