RidonkkParticipantI was officially inspired to DJ after my best friend DJ’d my homecoming… I did some of my research and have been fucking around with Virtual DJ. Seems like a pretty legitiment program, would it be competable with an actual DJ Table/Mixer? How should I start this all out? I know DJing and an expensive hobbie. I dont think something like a book is going to help me alot. But as far as equipment what do you reccomend I was thinking [url:1yp7va8f]http://www.123dj.com/packages/turntable/scratchmaster5.html[/url:1yp7va8f] and if anyone has used this in the past, it hooks up to your computer correct? And if so what program does it use or would it work with Virtual DJ? And if you guys have any acapella’s/instrumentals that are easy or fun to mess with could you link them or send to my email? [email protected] Also if you have any begginner tips please share them.
PS: My overall price range will be from $200-$500

weeddiggerParticipantWith the set you posted here, I think you’d have a fine start learning the more traditional method of DJ’n. Learn how to mix vinyl and you’ll definitely be able to mix with CD’s and software.
Now I do not believe you’d be able to hook this set-up to your computer, like I can connect a MIDI controller to control Traktor, but if you had a DVS (Traktor Scratch, Serato Scratch), then you could certainly use it as your turntables to control the mp3’s or wav’s (or whatever file) you’d play.
What kind of tunes would you like to play?

RidonkkParticipantI actually recently discovered Numarks Virtual Vinyl I’m willing to throw that kind of money down its a vinyl but you can use your songs from the computer onto the blank vinyl. Because when I looked at the USB scratching and all that it looks terrible like a computer scratch you know not like a REAL scratch. And I play anything from hiphop/techno/pop.

gilesbraidParticipantIf you want to get into hip hop djing (scratchin and turntabism) on your pc then you need to look into something called timecoded vinyls. This could be quite expensive tho as you need turntables, and some funny sound card/interface thing.
I just play dance/electro/drum n bass and am not interested in scratchin, I use VDJ with an external midi controller that work really well, it is a Hercules RMX. It costs about £250. As you said, usb scratches sound horrible, you can’t do clever impressivve things, but if you want a quick tear, then it’ll do.
The good thing is that you can use any midi controller for producing aswell as djing. Also, all you need to take to gigs is your laptop, and the controller which is about the same size as a laptop.
I think if you want a more professional solution on your pc, then the software to use is Traktor, which is like VDJ, but sounds nicer, and has more stuff!
As for begginer tips, jus practise regularly, record the mixes to hear yourself (sometimes it is hard to analyse when mixing), and nothing can prepare you for your first gig!!!!!
Hope it helps
