bC_ParticipantHey; I recently got into Djing a little shy of a year ago; practiced a lot on the computer and played around with my friends equipments and finally got my equipment. Through out me learning how to dj I just kept putting out mixes every week I would spin an hour set a week with all the newest tracks i could fine and it turned out to be a 2 hour set now. People started listening and now I"m actually getting booked for my first gig to play Live at this club which is always packed on a saturday night. So i have a lot of high expectations apparently; but i’m very nervous because i’ve never spun live before; although whenever I mix i just spin it as it is anyways. But any tips I should know; like of course theres going to be more distortion through the monitors and such but anything else?

DJ Bobby VParticipantIs there any way you can go there before your gig and check everything out and maybe spin for a bit? You’d feel a lot more comfortable gig night. Bring a good set of headphones..and a back up pair. Also bring a friend with you to hang out with. Generally most of the crowd doesn’t doesn’t have clue about mixing so don’t worry about that. Read your crowd and cater your music to them. Bring everything you got. Nobody’s going home thinkin’ "Ahh, I had good time, but the mixing wasn’t right." You want them sayin’ "That DJ played some killer songs tonight." Most of all…relax and have fun and that’ll carry over to your crowd. You now have one of the best jobs there is IMO.

djiceburgParticipantJust relax, if your nervous just take a deep breath and focus on the mix, pretend your just spinning alone in your bedroom.
I remember my first gig, I was so nervous! all those people!!!! But I mixed out of the last dj’s tune and just spun like i do when Im alone. And you know what? to my surprise, 2 tunes into my mix, people were cheering! So just relax, drink some water and rock the house!AdSense 336x280January 1, 2009 at 3:41 pm #661719
larrykooleParticipantYeah my first gig I was playing live drums behind my loops and I could barely work out the choreography. Good luck

gilesbraidParticipantIve only had two gigs before, but the thing that differs so much from bedroom djing, is the interaction with people. People will always be requesting tracks, and trying to deal with drunk people requesting gumph that no-one likes whilst beat-matching and mixing can be quite annoying. If you don’t have the track they want, they give you such a dirty look!
But you just have to ignore them, as most people will just enjoy it!AdSense 336x280 -
