DJ ValParticipantFor a while now I keep coming across links for FireFox. Can someone please tell me how good this is and why it is better than Internet Explorer and are there any pitfalls. Thanks.
Take care

TH89ParticipantFirefox is a lot more secure–you’re less likely to get spyware or be haxored or such things. Also, there are a lot of extensions you can get for Firefox that do cool random things. And it auto-blocks popups.

AnonymousInactiveFirefox and Thunderbird should be baked into XP @ factory !!
This browser rockes, nice tweaks for it.. good protection against scrips, popups and other shite… I really really love it !

Val, you’ve only got to read . It saves all the copying and pasting.
I’ve been using it for quite some time now and the ONLY time I see I.E screen is when I update Windows.
Someone mentioned, Thunderbird (think it was DISTORTED), well that is the Mozilla replacement of Microsoft’s Outlook used for email. That’s awesome too..
From a webmaster’s point of view we’ve seen a steady marked increase in people using Mozilla Firefox over the year that’s for sure.
Tabbed browsing alone’s like enuff said
! – It’s wicked stuff and it’s all Open-Source aswell.Hope that helps you make a decision..
happy xmas – acapella.!

DJ ValParticipantThanks for all your replies guys. As you all no I’m no whizz kid when it comes to computers and things too technical. Having said that I’ve been convinced to give FireFox a try.
What I’d like to know is, once you’ve downloaded FireFox, and you install it. Does it automatically take over IE, will I still be able to use Outlook Express and what happens to all “My Favorite” webpages that I have in IE?
Your help once again would be very much appreciated.
Take care and have a great Christmas Eve and don’t get too tipsy

tim.gosdenParticipantOk, when you install Firefox you have the option to import all your favourites and history etc. so yes,
If I were you I would keep on using Outlook Express, if it does what you need it too theres not much point in changing?
I assume that ThunderBird would transfer all your settings though, as firefox does?

LexusParticipantI use Firefox! I would never go back to I.E. I get more peice of mind with Firfox…
Hey Val,
I still have internet Ex on my computer, you can run both if you want. (you just choose what one you want as your default). When you install Firefox it will automatically ask you if you want all your bookmarks etc.. copied from I.E. Its easy.
I would recomend it! its a good safe program.
Peace

DJ ValParticipantOk so I listened to you guys and have installed Firefox. I have a slight problem which i’m sure you can help me resolve. When i try and d/l remixes from here, i can no longer right click and save target as. It gives me a right click option to save link as???
If i click the remix "download" tab, firefox is telling me that i’m opening it in MM one of my software programmes. I don’t want to open anything as soon as it downloads, I like to scan everything i d/l for viruses. (don’t worry it’s a woman thing
) Please help
Take careVal

I have worked some with web developement and working with the standards set up by W3C and the thing is that Firefox shows these correctly and IE does not im afriad.
This is a real pain for all web developers and we almost have to make two versions of the code all the time to fit IE.So if it’s messed up in Firefox it’s probably just bad code. Tell him to follow the W3C standards 😉

I’m still trying to figure that one out also, because it does the same with me. I’ll have to see if they go into the ‘Temp’ folders or something.
I hope somebody can shed some light onto this.
AdSense 336x280February 5, 2006 at 5:39 pm #584412
DJ ValParticipantHi anisina. I’ve just discovered something. If you go into tools on the Mozilla Firefox Navigation Bar, select options then downloads. You can select which folder you want your d/ls to go.
You then start a d/l it’ll give you the option to "open with" or "save to disc" select to "save to disc" Firefox’s download manager comes up i just close that then i open up the folder my d/l has gone to and do my relevany virus sacn. I know this is a long way around, byt at least you get to scan d/ls before you open them.
I hope you’re not too confused over my eplanation. If someone else can explain in simper terms, please feel free.

anisinaParticipantThanks Val, it does make sense. I did the ‘downloads’ folder when i got it, but i could’nt figure the bit where it was’nt ‘saving’ because i keep selecting ‘open with..’.
Cheers, and Duuuurrrrr to me.
