stepwiseParticipanti’m running a Powerbook and i use Peak o record, and then Logic to master. Peak is a great, easy to use recording program…. I’m also now playing around with recording directly into Logic. Either work fine…
Back when i had a PC i used Cool Edit Pro…

DJ LevantParticipantThanks for the input guys, at the moment I’m having a little trouble getting the transitions right between tracks, and the mastering too.
Would you recommend Acid for this?

MrBarrySirParticipantI record them live from my cdn88’s through the mixer into sony soundforge, then split the tracks on there.
Either that or i use my iKey which records your sets onto any usb storage device.AdSense 336x280March 17, 2006 at 7:40 am #586862
DJ LevantParticipantHey MrJynx, Basically in the past I’ve just remixed tracks using samples. I was thinking of releasing mixed compilations of tracks but am not sure which software to purchase.

DJ LevantParticipantYour getting on the right track here Jynx. I have been doing radio DJing on community Sydney radio in the past few years where I played the best in Dance & Trance (hence the top ten lists)

I recently stopped however due to other commitments and I am trying my hand at remixing and yes using computers more.
With the mixes, I dont mean to do the mixes to play them live, but for example make a mixed compilation of my monthly top ten for release on CD.
What about yourself? Are you currently DJing?

DJ LevantParticipantI think its good that your pursuing your own sound, if ur not liking the music ur playing than your not going to enjoy your work – so I wish ya the best of luck.
Australia’s got a moderate dance scene. It’s influenced alot by the UK and the house & cheesy stuff tends to do very well.
Yes I do know the Dancing DJ’s remake – and actually I am very aware of AATW as it is my favourite label. Your right the artists/remixes they sign up is the music thats right up my ally. I was very pleased when AATW signed up Dannii Minogue cause I knew they would release some great remixes of hers – the Dancing DJ’s ‘Perfection’ remix is awesome. Thanks again Jynx, all the best.

PsycSamParticipantMy 2 DNS-5000s and DN-X1500 go through Protools with Reason supplying some original flavor.
Gotta love it!

i did though, get my hands on native instruments traktor 3, virtual turntables if you arent familiar. havnt really played with it much, its seems like its gonna take a bit of getting used to. spinning with my mouse is a little different then using vinyl

DJ ValParticipantHey Levant. I used to mix with cd decks (well I at least tried to
). However due to the problem with my left arm, i soon discovered that mixes just didn’t sound right when your left hand is shaking all over the place and bumping the discs etc. Anyways I eventually decided to try mixing on my pooter. I got myself a MixMiester Pro 6 and have never regretted it. Whats good about it is that as you load your tracks into the playlist, it works out the bpm and the scale/note that the track is in. It also supports vst/plugins. I’m having loads of fun with the waves plugins which I only discovered the other day can be used in Mix Miester.
If you want you can to some of my stuff that I’ve recently mixed, bearing in mind that i’m still a beginner. I also no that you do enjoy your trance, so my house mixes may not be for your ears. But it’s just an example on beatmixing and the sound quality etc.
I have purchased Ableton Live 5, but I haven’t installed it yet, not sure if my computer can cope with another music programme on it.
I hope you find something that you will help you make those wicked mixes that I no you will come up with.
Wot if you get asked to play a live set..?
arnt you a bit, well, buggered?!…+[/quote:1h8owlws]
mrjynx this is an area that is worrying me at the moment as I don’t have a laptop. You are able to mix live using software as apposed to decks.
I’m busy doing some research as how one would set up thier software/system to mix live, then I have to write to Father Christmas and ask him to send me a laptop for Christmas. The silly man sent me a new pc, but I can’t go lugging the pc into clubs, gosh what a sight that would be
Take careVal

DJ LevantParticipantHey Val, Thanks for the great response. I did have a listen of ur "Big Tunes" mix and it was excellent. I might actually have a look at this MixMiester program. I got the trial of a PC program called Virtual DJ the other day which is very useful for live mixing – it alters the bpm without changing the pitch and all u do is drag ur tracks in.
I’m in the same boat Val, maybe the big fat man can give me a laptop too lol – I have been VERY nice this year

DJ ValParticipantmatt thanks for that info. I certainly will look into everything you have mentioned. If you do build a shuttle thingy, you couldn’t build two could you

Mrjynx thanks for the comments bout me mixes. I had to go the pc route and chuck the decks due to a problem with one of my arms. Unfortunately the clubs around here are so far behind the times, I’m yet to see one which caters for pc/laptop systems.
Take careVal

toksikParticipant
I`ve been thinking about this computer mixing thing, and I must admit it seems you could potentialy do a lot more with your mixes like this.. cos I have a lot of stuff I want to do that could take a few years to master in reality…
BUT..
Wot if you get asked to play a live set..?
arnt you a bit, well, buggered?!…+[/quote:3olbhuyj]thats why if i where to make a complete set via my pc i would be sure not to do anything that i couldnt actually do with vinyl. cutting mix time down with computers is one thing, but doing a near impossible set is another.

DJ ValParticipantmattgoldspink so what would the idea specs be for one of these shuttle pc’s bearing in mind the power some of these software programmes need. I’m really interested in this shuttle thing I’ve just taken alok at the Glow Lounge site. I’m not sure which oone would be best suited for what we do. I also found site in connection with the rubber keyboard you mentioned. I’m not sure if it’s the same as the one you got, but this one looks like you can go swimming with it

Take careVal
