DennisM483ParticipantHey. New here, so I figured I’d just make a thread asking for advice.
I’m working with FLStudio 9 and have been making tracks for quite a while, however, adding vocals is something I’ve just come around to. Any tips on matching tempos with downloaded acapella tracks and my tracks?

Mr BlondeParticipantI find the quickest way is tapping the tempo. Load up the acapella in Edison and right click on the tempo at the top of the screen and choose tap. Then just hit any key on the keyboard or left click on the mouse in time with the acapella until a tempo is displayed (you need to keep tapping until it settles on a tempo). The main tempo will change to that and then you can add the acapella file into the playlist. Once in there you’ll have to play with the settings of the vocal to ensure it time stretches if you increase the overall tempo and also stays in the original key
Cheers

DennisM483ParticipantMuch appreciated. I’ll be trying this, and a few other techniques I’ve read about, later. Thanks.

djmasonParticipantHi,
I’m new to all this acapella/mashup lark too but i’ve found that matching tempos is quite straight forward using Ableton Lite – I’ve got version 6 so can’t speak for earlier versions. You can drag and drop your mp3/wav etc directly into the song file list and it’ll read the bpm for you – you can then change the speed, trim the file, stretch, normalize etc and export as whatever format you want.
Another good program for just reading bpms is MixMeister – another drag and drop job but i’ve found Ableton is a bit more accurate.
Hope this helps
