tim.gosdenParticipantAnyone tried one out? Look like the ideal portable laptop for music, running logic 7.2 I guess! Any thoughts?

JuggernautParticipant…your session’s timed out on that link.
Uhm. i’d personally just wait a while till all the bugs have been sorted with using an intel chip in a mac..even though Logic 7.2 is fine on it, how do other audio programs behave on it?..i’d be very annoyed if most of the Native instruments software(for example) didn’t behave too well….
Just a thought.AdSense 336x280April 24, 2006 at 12:04 am #588750
JuggernautParticipantwell no…the main reason why Logic 7.2 was released was to make it compatible with the intel chip. which is fair play as Apple owns Logic..seems erm..logical that they’re pushing their popular selling software to be compatible with mac intel’s first (just wish native and steinberg would hurry the hell up)

JuggernautParticipanthahaha! amen to that!!…can you actually use .mp3 in logic?..i usually duplicate the mp3 file into the folder of my project, reduce the name to make sure there are no spaces or funny symbols, then it converts it to aiff…(if i don’t do that i get a "what kind of file is this" question)

reagansmistressParticipantI try to pretend the new apples didn’t come out yet. Not until the universal patch for Reason is released.

Lide01ParticipantAnyone seen a pc-laptop (windows) that supports with firewire 800 port? Apple had this one already done on the g4 powerbook. That´s why pc-laptops suck for me.

JuggernautParticipant[quote quote="plattitude":1o5gmim9]No, have never seen fw800 in a pc. but the macbook doesn’t have it neither…. just fw400 plus pci-x which definetly sucks!!!
I’m a bit afraid, apple will change into a consumer-company, just selling ipod-mobiles and imacs for games and as multimedia-centre for living-rooms, no longer caring for the small group of pro-users… just my pessimistic look in the future, hope it won’t come true…
can’t imagine to use xp again, I will stay a faithful osx-user till the last day, as I did with my good old Amiga500 and 1200…[/quote:1o5gmim9]from a graphic designer’s point of view…i some how don’t see this happening…ever (or atleast while i’m in the industry/alive anyway)
Apple is more than aware that their products from servers to at home pc’s (personal computers…coz that’s what they are) come to be the most used/seen products in the graphic/film/media in general…industry. It’s true there are PC’s out there doing the same too, fair play but the general consensus is that Apple helped mould the media world long before Microsoft learned to crawl (think about LUCAS and the creation of photoshop…on a PC? i think not)..
ah, also in regards to Firewire…you probably won’t see many firewire800’s as firewire400 is more than adquate to stream film (for example) from an external HD (NOT…i repeat NOT, feasible on a USB 2.0 connection, yes it’s got a speed of 480, but it’s throughput works in "bursts" as it were, thus useless and exeptionally frustrating). The only time i can imagine there being firewire800 ports is maybe in a network from a RAID server, but i have a vivid imagination

*edit* i’m sorry…just re-reading this, i’ve got a USB 2.0 250GB HD and i’ve been working on a DVD all day…just finished authoring it now…i was real pissed off earlier *makes note not to post when contemplating throwing her PB across the house*

tim.gosdenParticipantNo worries about the firewire 800:
"One FireWire 400, one FireWire 800, and three USB 2.0 ports"
