The CutterParticipantHi I am looking for a good video compression software. Any suggestions?
I am trying to display a segment of a surf video that I am working on via youtube. The editing programs I use allow me to compress video but I find that they bring the size and quality of the video down to much. The original clip is 750mb in size. For the purpose of yuotube they need to be less than 100mb. The closest I can get with my programs video compression for the web is 10 mb in size. That is a 90mb difference. I would like to get it closer to the 100mb size range if possible.
Also if someone knows of a site where I can upload bigger video files that would be great to know as well.
Thanks,
Mr. C.
P.S. here is to the current video. As I said the quality is poor due to the compression.

The CutterParticipantThanks djwicked for the advice,
The problem with this is that the only way to get windows movie maker is with the Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 update. I am very leary about installing SP2 on my pooter. I have had many people tell me not to install SP2 because they all had problems with it. Can I assume that you have movie maker and therefore the SP2 installed on your computer? If so have you had any problems?
Thanks again.
Mr. C.

silver79ParticipantHi Cutter,
If you’re on Windows – Try a program called Virtual Dub. It might be a bit of an overkill for what you’re trying to achieve but should work very well indeed. Its not particularly user friendy (very lo-fi gui) but it is small and free (GNU General Public Licence) and very effective for customising your choosen codecs compression. I used to use it all the time and I’m sure alot of serious internet video editors would recommend it.
Check it out @

* [url:3obyhzp0]http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/[/url:3obyhzp0]Unfortunalty i dont have a PC anymore and my memory is a little sketchy but the program should let you open 90% of video files and re-record them with whatever video codecs you have on you computer. You can futher customize the commpression % along with many other parameters in the file menus.
It may take you a couple of long winded attempts but when you get used to it you’ll wonder how you got on with out it.
Hope it helps mate.

SeanzaParticipantmy question iz, how much do theze programz compress the vid fylez 2?
(e.g. 4.7GB, could these programs half that?)

BuBaParticipantTry RAD video games tools
http://www.radgametools.com/It may help a bit. But I think you`ll lose quality anyway, with any program so… if thats not a prob, its ok

silver79ParticipantYou may want to think about tinkering with the size/resolution of your video clips too.
For example. If your file is 4.7gigs its likely that it runs at something like 720×480 pixels (roughly full screen TV res). Basically thats unnecessarily big for You-Tube and is gonna be very hard to make a small file size from, thats also decent quality.
If you only want to deliver your project on You-Tube then it only needs to be 320×240 pixels in size. So by making your video 320×240 you will immediately half the file size of it without using any compression at all – this will also look infinatly better on You-Tube because it wont be scaling your video down.
If its still too big – then you can think about what kind of comression to add and how much etc etc…
I hope that kinda makes sence – i wrote a much more detailed descripion earlier but my computer packed up before i got a chance to post it. Man technology suck somethimes!
