Instrumental version of songs

Depending on the song you can often cut it up, especially using something like Acid, and then select the bits without vocals and use those to build it up again, looping the bits without vocals. It’s not really going to work to try and remove the vocal from a song. It’s possible that you could try the opposite of making a DIY acapella (by taking the acapella, flipping it, and mixing with the original) but I can’t see it working perfectly. I’d try to make loops from the original.
