DJ ValParticipantRight you lovely people. I’m off into hospital today for my long awaited operation tomorrow.
Please be good for Acapella and Crin. I’ve told them if it gets outta hand just to shut the site down
, only joking, but seriously guys and girls, it would be cool if things could run smoothly while i’m away. I’m hoping only to be in hospital for a week, but I’m not quite sure when I’ll be back here as I have no idea how the operation will affect my left arm.
May I ask if you could maybe say a little pray and maybe "esp" (mentally) send me mega positivety as should it all go wrong (1 in 100) i won’t just loose the use of my left arm, it would be my whole body. I am really so scared, I know I’ll be in good hands etc. but it still dosen’t stop one being absolutely petrified to death as there are quite a number of issues stacked against me. But hey I’m a survivour and it would be a great help if I new that you guys were keeping the site clean and full of fun and love.
Should there be any further delays I of course will let you guys no.
Please look after yourselves and keep that music coming.
Take careLove Val

DJ ValParticipantHey, hey, hey. Guess whose alive and well
.
First of all i’d like to say thanks to all of you how left such good wishes etc. it really did mean alot to me knowing that there are still some caring people left in the world. I don’t have a big family or large circle of friends so your messages did mean alot.
Anyway i’m still in hospital. The 3 surgeons were pleased with the op. The device inserted in the spinal cord only gets programmed today sometime. Today will be the momement of truth whether this op has worked or not. When it’s programmed and it works that is when i’m allowed to start coming off the morphine. That is the day that i can’t wait for, the day when i hopefully dont need all these horid painkillers. I think may be out of hospital on Thursday, but i’ll still have a while to go before i’m fully recovered.
Believe it or not i have missed you all.
Take careVal x x x

acheadKeymasterI hope everything is good.. I too am kinda interested in what the surgery was all about.. Programming things in your spinal chord and what not, sounds sci fi..

anisinaParticipantAs Val is not here at present, I shall try to answer some of these… and hopefully, I won’t get told off by her.
BADB0YKILLA wrote:I been away a while, whats up with the surgery? how come you had to have it?Val required surgery/operation that required a SCS (Spinal Cord Stimulator) for a Condition where the dominant factor is severe Pain.
[quote quote="mrjynx":3lma3u7h]How the hell did I miss this?!
I will say get well, but you could be out of hospital already..lol This has really got me questioning if I`ve sleept for two days straight… ?!
anyway, get better soon Val…+[/quote:3lma3u7h]Jynxy, you may have been to sleep for a few days.
But Val has been out of hospital for a while now, and in her words "I’m on top of the friggin world".Bugs_Capone wrote:I hope everything is good.. I too am kinda interested in what the surgery was all about.. Programming things in your spinal chord and what not, sounds sci fi..Now, the serious bit. We as humans have the most powerful computer known to man. Sometimes, just like a computer, also known as the Brain, messes things up a little. When we have any injury, from light to severe, the brain has to rebuild the damage caused to nerves, fibres, vessels etc…. Sometimes, the brain re-wires the nerve(s) incorrectly and so where a nerve or nerves (including the ones in the brain) would not normally create pain, in these cases it does. Because of the faulty ‘wiring’ by the brain, the nerve triggers pain when it should not do or gives constant pain. There are many confusing things for even people like myself and Val to understand, and although we are both Pain Condition people, and it is hard to explain, theres no harm in trying.
The above was a very basic explanation of what happens with some people, and sadly Medical Proffesionals are far behind Proffesors and Scientists with regards even the basic knowledge of many conditions where the main factor is severe dabilitating Pain. The Orthopeadic surgeons are the worst, because they can not see something to stick a scalpel into, so theres nothing wrong in their opinion.
There are many I could give as an example, but RSD/CRPS (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy/Complex Regional Pain Syndrome), TOS (Thoracic Outlet Syndrome), CTS (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome), TTS (Tarsel Tunnel Syndrome), CPS (Chronic Pain Syndrome) are just a few out of a lot. ‘Syndrome’ means they can not explain it beyond any logical reason.
To give a measure of the level of Pain in a Pain Condition is hard but for two factors.
McGill Pain Chart Conversion
Female
Fracture = 20/100, Non-Terminal Cancer = 30/100, Giving Birth = 40/100, Pain Condition = 50+/100.Male
Fracture = 20/100, Non-Terminal Cancer = 30/100, Hard kick in the Testicals = 40/100, Pain Condition = 50+/100.I hope that clears it up for a few people, and whatever you do, don’t be sympathetic, just understanding.

For more Information, visit the for explanations of the different types of Pain and severe Pain Conditions.

DJ LevantParticipantWow thanks for all the info Anisina – very interesting read. I’m sure Val would not tell u off

I actually fractured my pinkie finger in half last year – still giving me trouble that damn finger lol, anyways it was funny to see the pain being compared to half that of a groin smack

DJ ValParticipantSorry guys I’ve just seen that this topic has recently been added to. Thank you for all your support.
Anisina well what can I say mate
, you are one in a million. Thank you so much for explaining everything as well as you did, couldn’t have worded it better myself.
I’m doing ok at the moment. Unfortunately I’m at a level of the morphine tablets whereby I can’t seem to get through a day if I try lower the dose that I am currently on. The main thing is I’m off the liquid morphine, which was killing me, I was getting so addictive to it (not my fault
). The liquid morphine (oramorph) was really messing with my mind as morphine is a horrid mind altering drug. Some of you may have noticed a slight change in my personality, I’m no longer a stark raving loonatic
shouting and screaming at all you lovely members. I think I’ve mellowed out quite a bit. If I do get shirty with anyone these days there is good reason where as before it was mainly paranoia.
I will never ever be pain free. The device that was connected is just a different and better way to control pain without the strong painkilers. The specialist did say before the op that I may find a level of the morhine tablets whereby I can lead a comfortable life with the device and that particular level of morphine. As I mentioned before I’ve completely stopped taking the oramorph and I have reduced the tablet form of morphine by 70mg a day. To me that is a huge step. I do seem to be having issues with my employers, they will not listen to me when I tell them that my condition has not been fixed, it’s still there, all that is different is the way I control the pain. But still they push me beyond my limits, which will continue to damage the nerves over a period of time. Management no that I will continue doing my job no matter what (it’s the way my parents bought me up), yet management will still take advantage. I’ve been asking them for an adjustment to my work station for two years now. On Thursday I really lost it with them and told them that if nothing is done in the next wekk, I will go to the union. I have the backing of 3 specialists, who have all said work wouldn’t have a leg to satnd on should I ever sue them
. Another way of explaining how this device works is if any of you have ever used a "tens" machine at the physiotherapists, it works on the basis of the "tens" machines. When I switch the device on, I feel alot of tingling and electric like pulses up and down the arm. It’s a feeling that one gets used to, but it is a million times better than the pain I experience when I’m not using it. I could sit here typing all day on the subject, but I better not. So basically the device I had inserted which is stiched to the spinal cord, is just another way to control chronic pain.
Anisina, I just want to say I really do no what you are going through, and please don’t let those guys get you trying every type of medication that is out there. I went through that for ten years and ended up on morphine when everyone ran out of ideas of what medication to try next. Has the pain clinic suggested nerve block injections to help you. These injections do help some people, they basically inject "lydacane" (spelling) into the affected area, if it works it deadens the nerve ends for a while. Unfortunately this type of therapy never worked for me. It all depends what type of "bracket" you fall into. Different people react to different theropies etc.
Thank you all for your support. I love you all
Take careVal xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

anisinaParticipantDon’t worry Val, I have every intention of doing whats best for me. I’m no longer a fan of medication, especially when they do little to improve the situation. Allthough nothing has been mentioned, I would try ‘blocks’.
The pain clinic I was attending told me they could no longer do anything except medication, but they urged me to get a referral to two of the best specialist neuro-science hospitals in the north-west (in the UK) where further treatment would be possible.
I’ll PM you more when I can, but thats it really.
