teknoboy420ParticipantI need help in how to make my Yamaha DJXII keyboard my midi controler. I am using Cubase LE as of now and my infterface is the Presonus Firepod. Since the DJXII didn’t come with any drivers or important software, I can’t figure out how to set it as the default midi controller. This is important because I need a midi controller when I use FL Studio also. I am new to installing these types of things. Up until now, I’ve been using my computer keyboard as the controler.
Can anybody help clarify this process for me?
Thanks,
Rob

tombeeParticipanti would say that you are probably better off investing in a dedicated midi controller. That way it’ll come with drivers etc and be easy to set up – they start from pretty cheap these days check out behringer and m-audio stuff. No disrespect to the djxII but i wouldn’t have thought it’ll really cut the mustard anyways

teknoboy420ParticipantI don’t think I need one of those breakout cables because the firepod has a midi in/out. I agree that the DJXII is a POS. I’m defintely going to look into something more appropriate.
Thanks for the help!

SeanzaParticipantDuggimon is right (as freakin’ usual lol). If it’s a MIDI connection it should work straight away without the need for drivers.
Unfortunately for you, av never used Cubase in ma life. But just make sure you have MIDI enabled.
Seems like a simple mistake but also very easy to not think about.

You won’t need any software for the DJX, but you will need 2 male MIDI cables, of minimal length required, and the breakout cable that DZ gave the link to. The MIDI settings in the DJX may have to be configured.. i.e. Local, Transmit chaneel, etc… but it will work.
Enlarged Rear View

The Breakout Cable
including the 2 female MIDI I/O (larger red & white) and the S/PDIF connectors
To use a MIDI controller in Cubase, you will have to arm the monitor button on a MIDI track. The Monitor button is Brown in colour. To check if there is MIDI being received you will see a level style meter move up and down in the far right of the Transport bar. It is next to the output level meter.
To hear a sound from the MIDI input in Cubase, you will have to choose a VST Instrument.
There we go.

The picture that anisina posted is actually the FIREBOX its the baby brother of the FIREPOD and doesn’t come with a midi in/out. The FIREPOD is the bigger version and has a midi in/out. Do I really need to by the breakout cables or can I just directly plug the keyboard to the POD?AdSense 336x280December 10, 2006 at 12:12 am #605245
anisinaParticipantSorry teknoboy420 I did put up the wrong images and the wrong fire*** …. it’s all this talk about fire’s, it gets me excited.
All you need is the midi cables (not the breakouts) and, with a bit of configuration, it will be up and running.
Hope that helps you.

PS. The cables are only a few £’s or $’s each. Don’t go for too long a cable, just go for the length thats roughly needed.

teknoboy420ParticipantDo I need two cables or one? It’s OUT of the keyboard to the IN of the firepod right?

Keyboard MIDI OUT > Firepod MIDI IN
Firepod MIDI OUT > Keyboard MIDI INThats it, simple as that.
