p2ParticipantFirst of all, I apologize if this isn’t the right spot for this post.
By doing some pretty good research over the past few months, I’ve come to the conclusion that doing these acapellas are not an easy thing.
I went ahead and bought a few cd singles off of ebay to give it a try and have not been able to get them to work.
My question is how do all the well known Djs get their acapellas? It seems like they have a limitless supply of them.
Take for instance the guy known as Girl Talk (http://www.myspace.com/girltalkmusic). How does he get all the vocals to the hundreds of songs he uses?!AdSense 336x280June 30, 2007 at 9:39 pm #627630

DJ LevantParticipantP2, I always thought that well-known DJ’s get the ‘official’ acapella’s straight from the record label of the original artist. I think if they are signed up themselves, the labels can sort out all the legal stuff for them.

p2ParticipantOh I see, good point. Well, I’m not giving up, just getting a little frustrated!

Although may I add that to me this makes the challenge more rewarding in the end.[quote quote="The Prequel":1hf2pb6r]I heard there’s a great site called http://www.acapellas4u.co.uk so maybe they get them from there.
[/quote:1hf2pb6r]Really?! What a great idea Preq. How do I register with this ground-breaking site??

Nah but seriously our database is fantastic and a producers dream. We do have a tremendous number of studio quality pella’s

Jacks WaxParticipantI heard somewhere that itunes does acapellas and instrumentals for download….but it all dependes on the lable/artist on whether or not they want to release it.
Surely it’s in their intrest to release the acapella… then remixes/mashup’s can be done which will only increase playout in clubs all over the world…..free publicity
I think the studio pellas and diy pellas should be separated into separate lists…also it should be a requirement to state "diy" or "studio" not just say "acapella"

vice versesParticipantthere must be some famous djs/ produers using this site…. seeing as its clearly the best acapella source on the internet.
would be interesting to know which djs do use it!…. bu tthen i guess we’ll never know!!V.V.

We do however urge members to clearly state what’s what with regards to the acapella itself. We also encourage everyone to submit ‘file comments’ on pellas so that we always have THE most concisive list of files in our database.

Maybe that will remain one of ACAPELLAs4U’s closely guarded secrets V.V 😉
But we should all be aware of at least some of the well-known talents from the upper echelons that DO use the site regularly.

bobhellbringerParticipantsometimes if a producer/dj is contacted to do a remix. they will get the acapella from the label and it might be a ‘pella from a song not easily obtainable.

muhammedmianParticipantFor real DJs, they go to pay sites like cicana to get all of the official stuff, like songs with dirty, clean, inst, and pella with it..

I’ll check it out now. I heard itunes also have some acapellas for download……but i don’t ‘do’ itunesAdSense 336x280August 1, 2007 at 12:18 pm #630237
modlifeParticipantThey got sended all sounds apart?
You mean they are sent the session from the original producers or at least sent the tracks the label owns. Not everything is digital, guys. Even if it is, it’s received as a bundled session after a TON of paperwork is done.
If you guys really think you have a chance at remixing some big names then get a good lawyer and let them work the labels for you.
A good entertainment lawyer is the most valuable person you can EVER hire in this business.

What do you mean by the ‘Dirty’ pella?
I always assumed the Dirty pellas were poor DIY pellas hence "dirty".
Or does it refer to the fact it’s Lead singer WITH backing singers??????AdSense 336x280August 2, 2007 at 3:57 pm #630337

CLEAN meaning quite simply it’s the non-swearing version of the track.Nothing to do with quality control issues.

Jacks WaxParticipantDamm It!…..I’ve avoided D/Ling ‘Dirty’ ones because I thought it meant it wasn’t clean of instrumental elements….
We learn something everyday.

and let’s just hope that members aren’t reporting files as ‘incomplete’ purely because the acapella preview feature only plays a short sample aswell

DJ_GreenleafParticipantWell-known DJ’s sometimes could be signed to a label, and they could get the acapellas from tracks that they produce, as they have the studio-production sections of the song, i.e. – vocals, bass, drums, guitar, etc.
Other DJ’s can buy official vinyls which usually has the acapella and instrumental on it.AdSense 336x280August 10, 2007 at 7:38 am #630955
otgParticipantGood luck with that… there’s quite a few JT acapellas already on this site, just search for Timberlake… from memory there’s Like I Love You, Rock Your Body, Lovestoned, What Goes Around, Sexyback and the one with Timbaland and Nelly Fertado. Why go to the source when A4U has it all?

spear3Participanti dont recomend cicana all they have is that hip hop and rap stuff so if your looking for anything other than that your better off looking elsewhere

LighthousesParticipantYou definately need representation to get ahold of official acapellas, I’ve tried to do it myself a few times and it hasnt worked yet, i think they take you more seriously if you have representation. You could always try and fake it and get your friend to pretend to be your manager I spose hah but still

Whenever I get one of those, I always wish I could write a quick review to let other people know what they’re using their credits on.

DaveTParticipantErr maybe i’m missing something here but….
You guys do actually understand the concept of remixing right?
1) A label will approach a producer / DJ
2) The producer / DJ decides whether they want to take on the project
3) A deal is agreed between both parties
4) The producer / dj is sent all of the relevant multi-track stems & parts.
Have people forgotten that this is a legitimate industry and not only people in their bedrooms with a copy of Acid!
