DJ ValParticipantSince the “competition in progress” post is locked, I just wanted to ask a quick question to which I’m sure we’ll all be interested in the answer
Since there was a slight delay in everyone being able to obtain the acapella, Juno can you tell us what the official start date is for the competition. Cheers.
Take careVal x

junoParticipantMonday December 12th is the deadline for submitting your track.

BattenParticipantOnly help i can give is using acid pro 5 beatmapper then double checking with the click in case any silence throught the acapella has been cut!!! I usually cut and chop the vocal then play by ear to find my bpm. Hope it helps

Thanks Juno + just to make sure everyone knows that the pella that you’re all gonna be using for this comp is the Lisa Stansfield track and it’s available [b:2ync603a][/b:2ync603a]

I usually cut and chop the vocal then play by ear to find my bpm. Hope it helpsIf you chop and cut the acapella, and THEN use the Beatmapper Wizard or whatever, you will probably have bad results. If you edit the file before beatmapping it you may have adjusted the timing so that beats won’t be exactly on where they should be. The only exception to this is splitting the file up into smaller bits to work with.

BattenParticipantYeah I know mate but if someone gives you a full acapella with the breathing before singing then you can beatmap (very rare)!!!!! If not what ever takes your fancy on how you use the vocal. I was just letting you know what a man should I say God Andy Steniford taught me a few years ago with chopping up using wavelab all the parts you would like in beats of 4-8-16. 95% of the time it works fine for me but hey I am still learning and will hopefully pick up some more tips on the way. If anyone knows other ways and how to flange or use different effects on vocals I would gladly listen always looking for new and different ways.
Cheers

junoParticipantu dont have to chop it – this acapella has no major changes of speed in the middle of it. i have mine set to one tempo and it stays on beat until it ends. listen in sections until u get to the end of the track, making small adjustments when needed – then cut it up if you want to loop sections or rearrange. like i said b4, the full-proof way to do it is to get the original song, match that to tempo and then you’ll know to slow or speed the vocals to match them to tempo.

RMXParticipantJuno,
Just a quick question….. Excuse my ignorance, but how does the ’rounds’ work – is it a knock out sort of thing whereby if you get enough points you go through to the next round, and so on….., or do you have to do a selection of remixes for each round – sorry to sound thick!!

junoParticipantyes exactly – it is a knockout round – next round might be a little different as far as judging & format.

Hey Caz. Yeah there is a house remix currently running. I’m not sure but you may be too late to enter, but don’t hold me to that. I’ll find out for you. The due date for the entries is Monday 12th December. I’ll send a pm to you when I find out if you can enter.
Take care
Val
