tytytyParticipanthmmmm….
how can I explain…
like I said, if you’re djing in a club and sometimes you kill the music and people in the floor sing brief lyrics for you…
everybody love to sing, for example, in BonJovi’s Living on a Player "We’re half way there, Oh~, Livin’ on a prayer" part,
or..
in AC/DC’s shook me all nitelong’s "All night long" part..i already know rock songs but i dont know alot of hip hop songs’.
so again,
if any of you know the part of songs help me..btw,
i think it could be different if you’re in different places..
i’m from japan and live in usa
and i notice in Jay-z’s I just wanna love you,
DJs let crowd sing "it’s about go down" part in japan
instead "I wish I never met her at all" part.AdSense 336x280June 30, 2008 at 1:48 pm #652355
ChunkyEatsMyDinnerParticipantDifferent for different countries I guess, Ive never had an american crowd sing along, they know all the dances but dont do the words.

NY, especially black crowd, its a major thing!
feel like you are in Karaoke bar!
DJ like mr. cee, funkflex, enuff, camilo… all Hip Hop djs do…white people sing along when dj spin "just friend" by biz and slick rick’s songs.
new song like Flo Rida’s Low, too.wait, how about Kanye West’s Gold Digger?
"we want Pre-nup" part? don’t let crowd shout??

ChunkyEatsMyDinnerParticipantDude, let the music speak for itself, if you start getting some experience behind you, you will learn
how to work your particular crowd.
The best advice I could give is try plying some newer stuff that is to your taste.
eg;
Give DJ Khaled – Out here grindin’ a spin. Its quite new and huge to the american crowds I play to.
Other recent tried and tested stuff is;
3rd flo – Do the Heizman
Camp 22 – Crank That Yank
Yung Joc – Pacman
Chopper City boyz – Bubblegum
And a little older but a personal favourite, Too Short – This my oneMix up the ‘coasts’ no one really understands what they mean anyway!!!
Keep a flow to your sets, keep speeds within 10-15bpm each other until you get more practice.
(Break sets up into sections)You will start to see if people are singing and learn when to do what ever you want.
The most important thing is always push new music.
Even if it gets a bad reaction the 1st time you play it, a regular crowd (unwittingly) would
rather be ‘taught’ new music than hear the same old tunes every day.Be confident in your choice of music, if you think its gonna be big then hammer it, the crowd will learn.
Ive cained tunes for 2-3 months before they become big dancefoor fillers, 9 months later
they hit the top 10 charts and I get tw@ts asking me to play the ‘original’ version they
heard on the radio!!DJing is all about reflecting your taste in music. Make the club your own and you may get recognised.
This I believe is the best advice I can give you.(And im a House DJ by heart, but with homework and an understanding of the music
you are playing, you can start playing to different crowds)AdSense 336x280July 6, 2008 at 2:33 am #652848
tytytyParticipant>Chunkycoldmedina
thanks for the advice…
i’m not a dj and your answer is nothing to do with my topic…about new hip hop..
no one beat djs in NY because most of studios and labels in their games are here.
we have dj pool, label pool and producer pool. its usually 3-6 months earlier than release date.
producer like just blaze, kanye and swizzy often make cameo to major club to check how their new song sound in the club and to see crowd reaction minutes after they finish recording.your songlists…
i knew all, i mean i don’t have’em actually, but i saw in digital pool before..
i think khaled’s jam is getting hot in miami tho..DJs here are not compete about how "new" because everybody got new songs or "rare" unreleased version…
it’s kind of the work mix-dj does.
so i think club DJ have to judge when is the right time..and bpm, between 10-15?
this is my poor knowledge talking
but i think usually 4-6 is max (hip hop music).
unless you change song’s bpm using time stretch or something, the vocal would sounds "funny".
you are djing with ableton Live or similar software?but i wish many djs here read your advice…
you’ve got a point!btw, im not "dude".lol
AdSense 336x280July 6, 2008 at 2:37 am #652849
tytytyParticipant>Chunkycoldmedina
sorry about bpm, you were talking about "flow"
i understand.. you are right.
i thought between 2 songs..
breaks like kurtis blow’s still work great, too..AdSense 336x280July 6, 2008 at 8:36 pm #652880

btw, im not "dude".lol[/quote:1srfudgx]Haha, sorry, an unforgivable usumption.
Please accept my sincere apologies ‘dude-ess’
You surprise me asking these questions if your not actually a DJ. (A 2nd incorrect assumption!)
And dont get me wrong, any dancefloor always wants to here stuff they know, and for 90% of night
Cupid – Cupid Shuffle has been the biggest tune in my resident club for about a year now!
(The Funkymix is monster tho!)
Its only the new stuff you play that makes you stand out tho, and I have been offered work in the US!Re the software, I cant stand it, I mix everything on CDJ’s or vinyl. I have Ableton Lite and Tracktor DJ
but find them both boring to use and give an absolutely lifeless mix.
I also begrudge paying 40EUR to hear some ‘world class’ DJ standing in a club in Ibiza making
an occasional tap on a laptop to fullfill a set.I take more satisfaction sitting down to crap and nothing coming out than using software to mix.

tytytyParticipant>Dizzyfool
thanks again..i havent heard Izzo for a long time in a club
but i don’t think crowd here sing along with that song..
anyway it’s good example of the difference for different places..how about Rick Ross’ Hustlin’ (Remix) in UK?
people sing along Jay-Z’s verse ("the Boss" part specifically)..AdSense 336x280July 7, 2008 at 6:30 pm #653010

Wooow! u went to Ibiza!!
it’s once in my life time kind of dream ever since i watched the movie "it’s all gone, pete tong"! lolits sad you had to see those "celeb" asshole djs!
they already mixed most of their sets, right?
that sounds terrible..i’m not so depressed about all software scene tho..
because it expand dj’s ability.
i saw daft punk’s dj was spinning with Ableton and he was remixing song in LIVE just like house djs used to do with MPC back then.
djing and at the same time, creating something new..
that was definitely upside.and hey! you are using CDJ and even Vinyl??!!
i almost cry!
BIG UP to you!!
i love djs still buying wax, i feel real love of music!
i have my record collection, too.
most of my mp3 files are actually converted from them!
it took months!!
a sad thing, here in nyc, a lot of record stores are going out of business now..
especially the one selling new stuff..
i’m gona miss those day i always hang out in record store
lots of communication with old-man with deep knowledge..
that was really something.you are invited to the states!
congrats!!
hope this topic helps your gig a little bit..
let’em sing along sometimes, they’re gona love you!AdSense 336x280July 8, 2008 at 5:50 pm #653082
