acapellaKeymasterI’ve been sat on the HDTv fence now (along with my fiancee) for about 1.5 yrs and I am so, so close to gracefully sliding off as I’m REALLY keen on the Panasonic 32" LCD
I’m sure there are absolutely plenty of our members that are already enjoying the delights of HDTv viewing..

davefjParticipantI’ve had an LG HDTV since just before Christmas and I recommend them big time.
Also Amazon has a good price for them

anisinaParticipantI’ve seen a few discussions about LCD Vs Plasma, and one of the things that stuck in my mind, was a comment from an AV ‘specialist’ who said something similar to this…. anybody going for anything larger than 42" should be considering Plasma. Under this size, LCD performs, and looks, better.…. don’t know if he was right though, as I own neither. Well, except LCD monitors.

PS. I love the Philips LCD that turns into a mirror when turned off.

TMParticipantdepends on what your application for use is
AdSense 336x280May 5, 2007 at 2:28 pm #620720
The CutterParticipantThis is an interesting subject which is right up my alley since I install a lot of Plasma and LCD TV’s for my work.
Again it really does depend on what application you are using them for and the technology itself.
I myself prefer the look of an HD image on Plasmas but LCD technology is improving vastly in regards to the image/colors it can display.
Then there is the question of if you are going to play a lot of videos games. If this is the case you are better off with a LCD display over Plasma. Even though Plasma technology has improved over the last two years there is still an issue with burn in. Burn in occurs when you have an image that does not move for long periods of time. For example the statistics/life indicators on most video games are located in the same part of the TV screen and do not move. So when you go to watch another image like regular TV programs you will see a faint after image on the screen. But like I said Plasma technology has improved and usually after a period of time the burnt in image disappears.
Then there is the price difference. Plasmas are generally a lot more expensive than LCD’s but this is starting to even out but this all depends on what features you want. It is getting to the point with the high end displays that LCD’s`are becoming more expensive than Plasmas.
So for watching movies and TV I’d go with a Plasma and for playing video games and using with computers I’d go with LCD’s but that’s just me.
I do not own either because I can’t afford them and ironically I work with them on a regular basis. Talk about a kick in the face. I am also waiting for the prices of both to drop a little more because once every country goes from the old NTSC/PAl signal to High Def the prices of both will drop drastically.

acapellaKeymasterI have only just bought myself the and it’s a completely different world from the Samsung 21" CRT I was in before (which lasted 8 for 8 years)
The tv just rocks and I watched White Noise 2 on it last night – just SD but it’s still great.
The main reason was really to benefit from HD gaming in 1080p and BluRay!
Fully recommend it ! 10/10
acapella
p.s It’s absolutely awesome for gaming! Re: Burn-in – treat the new purchase with respect same as you would a brand new car, run the contrast to 50%, do not play anything static for too long, be it games or satellite channels with static imagery.

Amazing how quickly one gets used to the size, but watching Planet Earth on Blu-Ray last night via my PS3 looks absolutely amazing!
This is even whilst I retain the Manufacturer’s promise of avoiding burn in aka. the run-in stage.. I have to have the contrast/brightness settings down relatively low.
saying that I have actually whacked the settings tight up to Dynamic and Cinematic to show the difference and it’s even MORE stunning…
do you have some preferred settings for your 42" Viera?

acapella.

WavestationParticipantI didnt spend anytime reading about burn in" in the book, althoough i understand it and obviously would like to avaid it, But i’ve just had it set on Dynamic, although I have turned down the contrast a little "too full on" for my liking. thats the only tweak. It was bought for my daughter to watch Cartoon Network! Im restricted to PC and a DLP projector for smoky long gaming sessions!

the way i see it, I got a 3 yr Manu warramty, so if it goes t-ts up b4 3 years , back to the shop I go. …..and after 3 yrs and I get a problem …well theyll be even cheaper.
I hate having " user restrictions " on my gear..it kinda can ruin the fun of buying it in the first place.
But i rate Panasonics build/ quality control ethics…so If I was ever gonna splash out on a huge plasma….I’d only have ever bought a Panasonic.
Whats the Blu Ray Verdict ??

WavestationParticipantLCDs ARE better, but only up to 29"

Absolutely Awesome.. only just finished watching disc 1 of 4 of Planet Earth..
I mean as we all know, the series rawked on SD (standard definition) but full 1080p HD is something you only get from IMAX/Cinemas etc..

too good to be true?AdSense 336x280May 16, 2007 at 9:50 pm #621705
WavestationParticipantHi Dan , seems a steal but not too good to be true…..
this is the start of the really big screens being pushed.
I stay in Poland, and the standard here is 42” although most stock of Plasmas in Retailers are now even bigger between 42" & 76"

sandro_rodriguezParticipanti’ve got a 37" LCD and I love it. The differnence between watching standard 50Hz TV and HD 1080i is phenominal!!

Only problem is now I only have standard def Sky+ and (most of) the channels look crappy.
Chris[/quote:3btuumi5]
Ditto. The exception however being the BEEB and Ch4/Film4.. HD only emphasises how shit some SD channels are but at times it’s almost like BBC1’s ‘nearly’ there in HD.
With regards to the ‘Do I upgrade to SKY HD from Sky+’ issue, I myself am in the same setup but there are talks of 20 Free to air HD channels becoming available ONCE the analogue switch-off starts in ’08.
Guess it’s a case of watch this space bigchrisw!!

PauluzParticipantI have a Viewpia 40" HD LCD, in black piano finish too. Awesone graphics!
[quote quote="Saviour":2xq6y0hk]I own a lovely Pioneer 43" HD plasma, in black piano finish! I love it, although havn’t actually compared the quality to that of a LCD.
Something i’ve always wondered is what’s better picture quality….HD or blu-ray DVD?[/quote:2xq6y0hk]
Shouldn’t really matter. Both support 1080p so I you have a Full HD tv it shouldn’t make a difference.
