acapellaKeymasterA serious topic that I hope you’ll all give respect to.
After losing my brother back in August after he tragically hung himself in Prison myself and my brother took the opportunity to choose the music.
This is what we came up with and it all worked very well:
1) Cars – Snow Patrol (going in)
2) ColdPlay – Fix U (reflection)
3) Lynard Skynard – Free As A Bird (way out)So, if you’ve ever had this task then you’ll know how bloody hard and emotional it is and I’d personally like to see the music you chose.
Regards,
acapella

anisinaParticipantYeah had to help choose the music for my mothers funeral just over 2 years ago. It was mainly my dad’s say so (which was no problem) but included a song with music by myself and the lyrics specially written by me and my sister. The music I had written was done so years ago (on guitar) and was called ‘The Last Kiss’ and not for one minute did I think it would be used for what it was eventually used for.
Those songs where….
1) Elvis – Love Me Tender (going in)
3) anisina (ft Bethany Clews) – The Last Kiss (For Our Beautiful Mum) (reflection)
2) The Fureys with Dave Arthur – When You Were Sweet Sixteen (way out)The singer is my Brother-in-law’s youngest sister who was aged 15 and did it in one take without ever hearing the song apart from one run through. I had 3 days to get my head together and write the instruments around the nylon guitar, and record the vocal (took 20 mins max) and mixdown and master. All while spending time with my then 5 year old daughter.
That’s a little of my story.

SchemaParticipantMy friend is taking a Funeral Services degree… I should ask her what she’d play.

berridgeabParticipantIf it were me then I’d choose something that mean’t something to him music wise. Good luck and my best wishes to you and your family.

diAztecParticipantA dear friend died in much the same way at his parents’ house back in 06. At the burial site, a family friend played Bob Marley’s "Redemption Song" on an acoustic guitar. A very touching tribute.

coojuiceParticipantTouching subject guys, sorry for your losses.
I personally haven’t had to choose music for a funeral but when my 4 month old nephew Alan died 2 years ago my brother and his girlfriend wanted the Candlelight Mix of Dj Sammy – Heaven played but the church said that they don’t allow music to be played now in religous ceremonies so they had to choose Highland Cathedral. Unfortunately I had to attend another infants funeral this year for one of my friends and they played Eric Clapton – Tears in Heaven as it was a Pasture and not a Minister doing the service.
I’m not sure why this was the case to tell you the truth.
I’ve got a playlist i’d like played at my funeral wake and i’m adding it to my will like the other poster above. I would like people to celebrate my life whatever age I die at and my playlist consists of some of my favorite songs and a couple of "funny" ones too as I have a good sense of humour and would like to go out with a laugh.
I’ll not say all the songs i’m wanting played but here’s the first 3:
Paul Van Dyk – For An Angel (My favorite song)
Queen – Another One Bites The Dust (Humour)
The Jam – Going Underground (Humour)
Please don’t feel offended by this and if it appears to be offending then i’ll remove it from the site.

JrocParticipantSorry for your lost dude…I cant imagine what its going to be like when I lose a brother. I just had to choose the music for my fathers reception a couple weeks ago and it was tough. I think the main thing for us was to really think about what he would have wanted, and being a trucker…well that made it a bit easier I think.
I send my condolences to everyone here who has lost someone. Its a crazy life changing thing that we will all have to go through but never expect it to actually happen.
Peace

vice versesParticipanti always said id like to have diana ross – theme from mahogany played at my funeral, i think its one of those inspiring songs, that always makes me a little teary, i think it would really be a song where it captured the emotion of a funeral. (thats presuming people wanted to come to my funeral though, and also hoping they werent celebrating my demise)
sorry to hear all your guys bad news, i guess we all know or have been to these sad events, guess its like they say its the one thing thats promised,
