Girl Talk – Best Mashup artist ever?

girl talk is without a doubt my favorite masher. feed the animals was an unbelievable album. his earlier shit was a little too glitchy for me but night ripper and feed the animals were out of control.

Definitely one of the best. No doubt about it.

Team Canada DJs are also very high on my list too. Their first mash-up album was dope.

girl talk is pretty awesome. i agree with jamaxson1 that his early stuff was way too glitchy and that night ripper and feed the animals are brilliant.
i wouldn’t say he is the best ever though, cause i still think radio soulwax / 2manydj’s are a bit better. have you heard their 2 hour bbc [radio] 1 special on the rob the bank show? first hour is just intro’s from 420+ songs jammed together. pretty cool…

He was a pretty awesome glitch / mash artist before his pop mash extravaganza’s. I think the album "Unstoppable" may be my favorite. I’d recommend looking it up along with Aaron Spectre’s "Amen, Punk" EP.

Greg is at times absolutely brilliant. Other times,,,not so much. I am not a fan of the Lil Wayne with RHCP mix at the beginning of Play Your Part (PartII) at all, it doesnt match right. I would say the highlights of Feed The Animals would be Shut The Club Down (the whole track), Hands In The Air (the whole track), Play Your Part (part I)(the whole track), and from there,,,it’s just parts of things that are brilliant. Hot Chocolate mixed with America’s Most Wanted is fucking KILLER, Drink In My Twostep with All That She wants,,,equally brilliant,,but I think my favorite part on the whole album is oddly enough,,,Souljah Boy mixed with Iron Butterfly,,,I wish the whole Souljah Boy song had been done that way.

Feed the animals is by far, the worst he has done.. failure

If people believe he is the best masher available, I really suggest looking around a bit more. Mashing everything with rap, requires about as much skill as counting to two.

I’m from Chicago where we breed mashups…Girl Talk’s "Play Your Part pt.1" is hands down one of the greatest mashups ever made!!!

Ha ha, not to mention all the toilet paper he waste. Do you know how many butts could have a good wiping that otherwise couldnt? lol, In a era where most of the mashups are produced on software, I have to give the guy his props on doin Live shows strictly on a laptop…..BUT, I would also like to see the look on his face when the laptop decides to not want to work one night….

Personally Team9 gets my vote. He’s started to move away from Mash Ups now though. I think he got annoyed that he started doing them for a bit of fun, but then that’s all he was known for after a while.

For the past few Christmasses he’s done a collaboration with Stereogum, mashing up the biggest tracks from the last year. Sometimes he drops the ball a bit, but when he gets it right … holy shit! I can’t listen to Big Time by Peter Gabriel anymore, because all I can hear in my head now is his (personally) far superior mash up.

That said, I’ve seen GirlTalk live. It was the most mental gig I’ve ever been to. The stage got rushed within 5 minutes of him starting. That DOES NOT HAPPEN over here. I fought with the bouncer, because I wanted to see what the hell he was using to play it live, but he wouldn’t let me on stage. Mostly because I didn’t have tits. I just kept at him until he let me get up, then I forced my way right behind him to look over his shoulder. On the plus side, he introduced me to Audiomulch. On the down side, we ended up with some awkward "dude, your penis is rubbing against my ass" kind of moments, and there’s footage of me on youtube looking dreadfully white front and center on stage at a hip hop gig … ouch …
