brightoneParticipantand they’ve got an awesome vid for their song Long Slow Drag I discovered. How’d they get Steven Tyler’s daughter to be in it? http://bit.ly/eJajJ4

famousnessParticipanti agree with you on its more of a who you know world (even with 9-5 jobs). but im guessing you have to go out in the world, perform decent music, setbreak/open for bands at a local venue, talk to the bands and see what you can do from there, and promote the crap out of yourself while working hard and getting close to nothing in return. but as long as your happy….
look at justin beiber, got his start on youtube, older generations got their start on starsearch, talent was the key to their victory. (just dont go putting out music like justin beiber, unless you like 12 yr old girls)

Tion LineParticipantAs far as I’ve seen, almost everyone who has a few 100000s views on his/her videos on youtube gets a record deal to bring the song (mostly a cover) on itunes…
So I think you "only" have to get enough fans (eg on youtube) that it’s profitable for a label to release your song… and if you’re veeery lucky you might become famous..
But imo it’s not very probably that would happen

AudioTacticsParticipantIt really depends what type of thing you want to do…
If you make really good music, it will get signed no matter what. However, it you want big label backing, you’re gonna have to have the "look" as well.
