DJ ValParticipantI’m hoping someone with some web knowledge will be able to explain how the whole thing of fTP works.
I know one needs some kind of fTP software in order to transfer info etc. What I really need to know is the info about servers etc. Do I have to purchase "Server" space or can I send info direct to say my website.
I’ve just purchsed a flash website builder, and the program goes on about transferring the website details (that I’ve just built/setup) via a fTP server direct to the website host.
Also do all website hosts allow flash websites or do you need to get a particular host who does host them?

Thanks

funkybeatsParticipantHi Val.
FTP stands for "File Transfer Protocol" and is a way of transferring files across the Internet, for example from your computer to the computer where your website is hosted.
There are 2 main types of FTP:
1. FTP client – Software that lets you connect to a server where your website is hosted so you can upload your files.
2. FTP Server – This is what you connect to when you upload files to (for example) your website.
From what you say you will want an FTP client which you can get for both free and non free. I personally use a free one called Smart FTP (http://www.smartftp.com) as it’s easy to use.
And yes all, well, 99.9% of web hosts allow you to have a flash website. If your looking for some webspace and depending on what you want to host then I can help you out and give you some web space for free.
