DJ_BradyParticipantIm thinking of doing a mash-up album.. Although I´ve no real expierience at mash-ups, but Im going to get a rock/indie band and mix it with a rap artist.
Now heres what I plan to do.
Since theres no instrumentals from the rock band, Id have to use the fruity slicer and slice up a sample.. i.e drum loop, guitar loop, piano or whatever.. and re-arrange it.. but it may sound a bit too cut up..
I could also use the granulizer to change certain instruments a lot but..
what Im thinking is…
1. I cut up a sample guitar loop…
2. Make new melody on piano roll with fruity slicer (this enables me to make a new loop up.. and change the pitch of each note as I go)
Does anyone have any suggestions.. is FL really not good for mash-ups?
Im looking to do real good mash-ups with lots of editing.. what tools can I use to make a good album..?AdSense 336x280January 31, 2006 at 11:30 am #583933

DJ_BradyParticipantIt´s very complicated though.. VERY.

junoParticipantBottom line – FL sux in the visual/visual control area. Good for setting up drum loops in the step sequencer but when it comes to automation, mixing visually, & sound editing – its way too spread out & impractical in my opinion. Not to say it isnt useful but i think its pretty overrated. I’d rather use a VST step sequencer like Microtonic

its much easier to load a file, tweak its sound (which by default already sounds better) & arrange multiple loops of it on the same screen than to switch back n forth like you have to do in FL.Acid is by far very complicated – try learning Logic Pro without a manual. Now it wont be exactly what you’re looking for until V6 where it’ll support MIDI and you’ll have a piano roll thingy like FL. But my advice, get something more versatile if you want to do mashups with alot of editing.

extremetraxxParticipantWell for production, i hear for quality recording, esp. for vocalists, you might wanna check out pro-tools. I hear it’s quality for production when it comes to vocals is unserpassed! However, for beats and stuff, FL is my saviour dude. Sounds like you’re doing something pretty complicated, but for the business I’m in, it really gets the job done. I’m learning new crap with it every day.

DJ_BradyParticipantIm going to try do some mash-ups with acid.
It´d be cool if any good "mash-up" artists could give me a few tips or a set of steps to get started..I know how to use FL Studio easily now so Im moving to Acid Pro and gonna try some mash-ups.AdSense 336x280 -
