DJ_BradyParticipantTo be honest I thought our Irish entry was an okay song but really DEAD compared to the other songs.. it had no dancing or life in it.. the eurovision is all based on entertainment and politics now really.. its not how good the singing is but how good the performance and presentation as a whole is by each country..
The Romania song was pretty good and the studio version of the uk song is catchy.. he overdid it though but maybe politics played a part in why the UK didnt get as many votes..
Anyway Ireland qualify automatically for next years final

foxtradaParticipantWell, I’m from Finland and I’m really glad we won. I mean, no matter what kind of music we have performed in Eurovision in last 40 years, we haven’t got good points.
Lordi’s winning was something I did not believe in, even though there was a huge excitement around these "horrible monsters which children are afraid of" (that’s how many finlanders called Lordi). Many finnish people thought that Lordi is not going to do better than any previous finnish participants, they claimed that Lordi is not an appropriate band to perform in Eurovision. I did not believe they would win, but I knew it would get better points than any other finnish artists who were on the finnish voting with Lordi. But they won. Without their masks I guess they wouldn’t have got so many points, but they are a part of their performance.
Now I would like to see a face of those finnish persons who wrote on the Internet, before the Eurovision song contest, something like this: "Oh my god what has happened! Satanist Monsters have been sent to represent Finland in Eurovision 2006! This is horrible! I am ashamed of being finnish! Please anything else but Lordi!"
I say haha.

DJ_BradyParticipantI dont know why there isnt more famous acts instead of less talented ones..
The only ones I saw where Las Ketchup representing Spain.. they had a big hit a few years ago..
And Ireland didnt win basically because the Eurovision has changed.. its all about appearance and entertainment now.. people are saying its good that the Lordi band won as it now brings the Eurovision to a wider audience.. ie rock fans and stuff.. and he said hopefully there will be more hip hop acts, rock acts at the Eurovision.. I partly agree as the Eurovision shouldnt just ballads and pop music…AdSense 336x280May 22, 2006 at 5:57 pm #590234
foxtradaParticipantI’ve been wondering too why there haven’t been any famous bands in the Eurovision song contest. Well there has been few ie ABBA who won btw. In Finland there have been famous artists to represent Finland but those haven’t made through the voting process in Finland. Nightwish is one to be named, don’t know why people didn’t want them to the Eurovision. Lordi has been quite popular in Finland and somehow finnish people voted for them. And if I remember correct, Kate Ryan was a candidate to represent France, but as you know she didn’t get chosen.

lasso the moonParticipantthanks for the info,,is that the competitionabba one to get them rollin way back when?
AdSense 336x280May 22, 2006 at 9:04 pm #590239
foxtradaParticipantABBA performed their song called Waterloo, but they had released an album before. But one can say the winning of the whole contest was the thing that made ABBA famous all around.
About Eurovision’s audience getting wider, I really think the amount of watchers is growing, at least in Finland. Earlier it was mostly people over 25 who watched Eurovision. But this time, because of Lordi’s performance, also the younger ones were interested in Eurovision. Well I am 18, and have been watching Eurovision every year for 4 years, but many of my friends haven’t understood why I watch them. Now every one of them was watching. Teenagers like Lordi I guess.

lasso the moonParticipantim not that old
as well but read the bio,,but still sounds like its a contest smelling of politicsAdSense 336x280May 23, 2006 at 10:44 am #590262
foxtradaParticipantPolitics or not, explaining the victory of Finland with politics just isn’t right. Previous years we haven’t been in top 20 or even in the finals. I know many neighbour countries give points to each other, but there’s also so much more.
AdSense 336x280May 23, 2006 at 11:47 am #590268
vaehaevuoriParticipantSweden has usually given us a point or two in ESC, but this time they gave us the full 12. BUT, this is because people with Skype voted for Lordi, and the Skype server (or something) is located in Sweden, surprise surprise.
Fortunately, even if we wouldn’t had any points from Sweden, Lordi would have still won, like it did.ESC was much about politics. Because of the tele voting, it’s kind of a silly contest now. "In the old days", every country had their own panel of specialists that decided the points, now there’s some politics to you folks.
AdSense 336x280May 29, 2006 at 10:37 am #590646
vaehaevuoriParticipantLordi sure isn’t a Slipknot ripoff, please.
Mr. Lordi (singer and the "boss" of the band) is the president of Kiss army Finland, the fan club of KISS.
Lordi’s music is far from trash metal (the genre), as they play ROCK. The costumes and masks are only for the show and that only..maybe you should check out the facts before judging?AdSense 336x280 -
