Woop, never used one, but I know you can actually do the same thing with a standard cassette. Put rubber bands round the reels of the cassette and chop the tape

I’ve got a Teac r2r that I sometimes run the signal through for warmth, but I haven’ recorded on it for years and years. I think I may do that soon just for the nostalgia value.
