spear3Participantis there a different forum for debating because i don’t think it really goes under "chat". the reason i ask is; i would like a debate section. since coming to acapellas4u i’ve seen some interesting threads (to say the least) but have not been able to contribute because i know little about the actual production of music and don’t have anything along the lines of "equipment" other than my computer (which would probably lag while using ACID), so the ways i could contribute and raise my post count is limited. i do however have a lot to say along the lines of philosophy, politics, social mechanics, and more importantly how music affects youth. so i guess im asking to add a debate section to the forums separate from the general chat because debates can become rather heated and many of the topics may offend people I.E. effectiveness of communism, Eliteism, abortion, and the death penalty. none of those are completely over the top horrible but may be mildly offensive to others which is why i think there should be a separate forum for debate.

avalonandonParticipantI have to take some of the blame for this as I have started several very emotional threads that have to do with politics, world events, spiritual and religious topics. Ultimately, all of these things find expression in my biggest passion, music, but this is not really a forum well suited for such penetrating and long winded discussions. The occasional thread seems to spark alot of input and opinions but (I could be mistaken here) Im not sure a whole new section devoted to these topics really fits the format or direction intended. Im sure however, a general search on google.com would find many many such places specifically devoted to this. Acapella? Anyone else have thoughts here?

JuggernautParticipantindeed, whilst a healthy debate every now and then is a nice change from the norm…having a forum solely dedicated to it isn’t something i’m (personally) all that keen on.
Seeing the varying people we have on the forum, the one thing we can all relate to directly is music. Of course that’s what brought us to the site in the first place.
There are a few things that don’t normally get talked about at dinner parties: Politics, Religion and Money….
Who’s to say that occasionally talking about it isn’t wrong? not me. I’ll read quite happily but won’t write anything as i’ll end up sounding like a broken (w)rec(k)ord…
"(Religion/Politics) is flawed as it was designed by humans. Even if it was created by computers it would still be flawed as it’s lived out by humans. To err is to be human. We can rant about how imperfect we are until we’re blue in the face or the cows come home. I’ll be sitting at the bottom of the garden sucking on honey-suckles and making shapes with the clouds"
or something to that effect. depends on how much coffee/redbull i’ve had in the morning.
anyway, i’m sure we’re all intellectual enough to not take anything on t’interwebz personally and further sectioning off something like debating from general chat will probably add to the air of slight negativity towards the idea.

cant say i agree with either of you but i guess there’s not much i can doAdSense 336x280September 12, 2007 at 11:07 pm #633561
avalonandonParticipantlol…not that I personally wouldnt enjoy it!! I enjoy discussing- "debating" as you put it, with fellow artists as opposed to my fellow philosophy students. There is a more tangible, real world dialogue…flavored with the musician/artist perspective. I responded to your private message, did you get it?

The odd topic on philosophy is great but I think (as you mentioned) a great deal of topics debating controversial issues like politics, religion etc is taking away the "layed back" nature of the forums. Also people can be very passionate about such topics and a heated discussion can easily offend or agitate some. Dont get me wrong though I enjoy sharing my views & discussing social topics.
This is just my little opinion.

aj-smsParticipantLets debate. Lets talk about sex girls and money.

junoParticipantFrom personal experience debating is not the best thing for a forum – they can easily get out of hand & definetly need heavy modding. Things dont always get interpreted the way people would mean them.

SeanzaParticipantIMO…
No need for a debate section…it’s plain and simple music here.

JuggernautParticipantbah! you can’t kid if you’re debating….you’re backing down…

diAztecParticipantJust speak on it. If you have opinions on politics and the way music effects youth just throw it out there. You might be suprised at what you get back. Kick back, sip on a 40 and let your mind be your guide. Bouyakasha!

djshadesukParticipantI enjoy a good mass debate as much as the next person but I’m not sure this is the right place for it. Sure if the odd topic arises then fair enough… but what would be good is an ‘all out war’ section where if people disagree on something they can go specifically to this section without cluttering up the rest of the forum. The rest of us can then sit back and laugh as others battle it out in game of wit, illogical arguments and if needs be name calling! ‘Fight Club’ anyone?
