DJ CrashParticipantI have got a logic and I really want really good synths and a proper hard dance beat for Trance hardcore and techno rythms.
I was wondering what people recommend that works for them and is a good buy. is it worth buying VST’s or better getting external moduals.
Any advice is greatly appriciated

dc2000Participantone of my favorites is NI’s REAKTOR.. version 5 will be out in the next few days and its sure to be a kiler!!! Its Completely modular sound synthesis, sampling and effects all in one badass package! 😉

tonesParticipantI would say it doenst really matter, just get a synth u like the feel of, try n hav a go before u buy then learn its synthesis inside out. I think too many people get loads of synths n rinse the presets. If u have even one sythn u kno really well u should be able to produce most sounds your ever gonna need, providing its half decent. I like hardware personally, i used to be more soft synth, but u cant been hands on twidling

acheadKeymastermicroKORG or a Virus C for hardware. Grab Reason if you want to use software based synths. You get the best of all worlds and the synthes are top notch! Reaktor is really good aswell but I tend to use Reason alot.

TwistedjoyParticipantPersonally I still use the old Yamaha CS1X, Yamaha qs 300, mini moog & a few other bits and bobs along with a host of plugin synths like Vanguard, Saw, Virus etc……..
But Like lones said you can’t beat hard ware

dohboyParticipanttry before you buy. always dowload the demo version of any softsynth (or theres plenty of free ones out there) or go into a music shop such as soundstation or turnkey and ask to have a go. Most of the time you dont even have to ask

The CutterParticipantIn my opinion the best synth is hard to choose. There are so many great ones that it makes it a difficult choice. I myself prefer the real thing over the virtual but software synths are improving.
Here is a great link about the history and types of synths.

Make sure you check out the main page as well. This a very informative site. Check it out.

I personally want two Casio VZ10M Rack Modules. I like the old school sounds and you can patch them together and come up with even more creative sounds. There are also a lot of custom patches you can buy and sometimes find free as well.
Here is a link for the specs and more for the VZ10M: http://www.sonicstate.com/synth/vz10m.cfm#links
