Benzino and Dave Mayes Booted From The Source Magazine

Just heard that Dave Mayes and Raymond “Benzino” Scott were booted from the Source Magazine, a company they founded.

What do you guys think about that?

I personally saw it coming, cause Benzino has done nothing but tear the company apart with biased views and opinions (from the whole Eminem stint to going against the former Source EIC who wanted to give Little Brother five mics for their latest album). On the other hand, I agree with Benzino about the Machine. Only the Machine could boot somebody out of a company they started. I mean, I have my own company, and sure it would hurt if some board of directors that I assigned kicked me out.

Looks like they won’t be coming back either, because a Judge granted The Source to sell Dave May’s 82% of ownership.

So much for that white horse that Benzino said that he was coming back on.

It goes far beyond Eminem and giving him five mics. Truth be told, I think they gave him something like 3 1/2 for the Eminem Show album because he had started repeating himself concept-wise. I think that’s a fair judgement.

What else? There were a lot of unpaid contractors and employees at the Source. To me this is the issue-at-hand that should be dealt with, not Eminem and his five mics. What about those "little fish" that rely on freelance and employee checks?

Still, in the end, people can talk all they want, but there would be no Source, XXL, Vibe, etc. if it wasn’t for Dave Mays. Period.
