GuitarplayainMDParticipantOkay, I just made a full fledged mash-up album with a bunch of crunk and electronic tunes. I dunno if I should release it because well, I don’t want to get jacked. Yes, I know half of mash-ups are beat jacking in the first place, but I want to make sure that I’m credited though.
What way is it to show that I made this album first? On the other hand, how did Dangermouse and Dean Grey w/ Go Home Productions make sure they were given the credit they deserved as well.

The CutterParticipantI would suggest always using an audio I.D. or tag. Something that says you mixed it. Also if you had your own web page or even hosted it on a myspace music page it would give you something that prooves you did the mixes.

GuitarplayainMDParticipantZone has a good idea, True. Since these are mash-ups I can’t copyright them I might as well use the "poor man’s copyright" theory just to show proof that I released it first. Cutter has a great idea as well. Thanks everyone for giving me some tips on this.

djboomerParticipantyou should’nt worry about someone"jackin"you, that’s gonna happen anyway.what i think you should do is,stay on your grind,if it’s that hot im pretty sure you can make other’s.just make sure people know who you are.let them know that you’re"that dude"and just keep hitting’em over the head with hot s#*t.and beside’s that, someone has to here it,you can’t sit on it forever, you’ll just become the basement mash-up guy.and nobody will ever no who you are, never mind recieving credit.

dubbexParticipantim with thatdude on this one. at the end of the day its not your own from scratch so dont worry about protecting it too much. if its good enough, and you yourself manages to get it heard by the right people and enough people, you’ll have the credit!
