ThePellapushersParticipantaudacity should do it if it’s just the pitch you want to change

ThePellapushersParticipantHi All
Can anyone recommend a process or effects that are good for for apply to to acapellas to mix with dance music
I am aware of several techniques, which i will add as this post progresses.
Specifically in this instance i am looking for a way of making – "Scissor sisters- Take ya Mama" dirty ( How i am not sure )
This acapella has a naturally high pitch, hormonic tone, which i need to bring down, inorder to mix with an electro track.
My own techniques just dont work and any ideas with sample and explanation on process are welcome
Regards, MICK_c

Player ZeroParticipantThe high pitch is due to the singers voice. You can use audacity as a simple tool to tweak the pitch, but anything better you’ll need to use a professional program.

HyperstateParticipantI would advise getting a copy of cool edit… as long as you don’t go any further than 3-4 semitons you can totally change the characteristics of a voice by pitching it down. I would advise using the "resample" time stretch function as this works in the same way as decks (ie it changes the pitch AND the time, whereas timestretch changes time independantly, pitch shift changes pitch independantly).
Then simply time stretch it to the tempo you want it as usual, should be less screetchy!
You can go much lower / higher, eg k90s ‘Red Snapper’ sounds as if it is a woman but actually it’s a very deep male vocal originally.AdSense 336x280November 22, 2009 at 8:27 pm #674317
syrus1Participantyou just really have to try in different voc processors. I use vIp

ThePellapushersParticipantThanks for all teh feedback.
I see that changing the tone seems to be the most popular solution

ChicagoCheerFXParticipantCool Edit is now Audition. They have a great non-destructive fx rack that you can run pitch, distortion and a morphoder if that’s the sound you’re looking for.

horkParticipantcheck this out, it costs money but it leaves the instrument/vocal you’re trying to isolate pretty clean.

gwattParticipantUse Ableton Live to change the pitch or add effects. It’s the industry standard..

SpankPatrolParticipantWell, tuning + EQ + reverb + compression? Those are the main tools I and most other producers use for vocals. If a vocal is to "naturally high pitched" and can’t be fixed with eq’ing I would recommend transposing with melodyne or something. Vocals can be transposed down (or up) to great effect in remixes.

MC240384ParticipantEQ, sidechained reverb with a short decay.. if you want to change the pitch then a pitchshifter is good but comes with artifacts like most audio processing if done to extremes.
