funky-TParticipantHi All
I’ve been wondering if boys like Roger Sanchez, The sweedish house mafia, Junior jack etc. makes re-edit of tracks with acapellas on, or if they just drop the acapellas live while performing?
Cheers!

DJ XtraParticipantIm not quite sure what you are asking there…
Do you mean…Are they playing an instrumental version of the song, then adding the accapella to the mix whilst DJing live?
If that is the question then i doubt it very much. Altho it has been known to be done before. But its a lot of hassle.
AdSense 336x280July 29, 2007 at 10:17 am #629998
JuggernautParticipantIt is possible. usually they’ll play a kinda dub version and put whatever acapella they want on top of it.
But consider the fact that they’re probably playing so many times during a week etc. that they wouldn’t really have time to play the pella over an instrumental every time so it’s likely they’ll edit them at home/studio and play them out together instead.

I mean that very often acapellas like "In the beginning there was jack…" are dropped on top of other tracks. And I haven’t been sure if they dropped it live or had made a re-edit of the track with the acappella.
At first I was pretty sure that they were re-edits, but then I read about the Heineken Found @ Thirst competitions and that the judges (who were hi-profiled dj’s such as Pete Tong and Roger Sanchez) would judge the use of acapallas in the performance – so I started to wonder if "top"-djs did or didn’t pre-program the use of acapellas.
However I still think that they use re-edits…. but I don’t know for sure…AdSense 336x280August 17, 2007 at 1:05 pm #631710

TMParticipantmany top jocks carry their own remixes of tracks or re-edits of mixes.

charley bucketParticipanti drop acc’s live all the time.. im sure a lot of the big name guys do as well.. but i do know of quite a few ppl that edit them at home.. i dunno y tho.. its fun floatin an acc over another beat especially when u got 3 and 4 decks to play with

SchemaParticipantPeople definitely do it… certainly not the easiest thing to do though, and can complicate things some when you’re only use 2 decks.

alexstyleParticipantI’d say its a bit of both to be honest. If there’s and aca and a tune that the dj has found go really well (so many times aca on top of coraco – morillo uses this) then its probably been done in the studio. but ive seen top djs whip in acapellas all the time during sets, thats why most top clubs have 3 cdjs. theres videos on youtube etc that proves that the top djs do drop them live as they put effecs on them or loop them etc, search for some of erick morillos vids, hes renowned for chucking in acapellas, heres a vid i filmed in pacha ibiza this summer, listen at 1min25 and you can clearly see all 3 of the cdjs with cds in. ahh that vid brings bak memories from summer!!

WildAceParticipantif u have the aca set up to the point u need it at & know the other song that u are currently playing very well, u can easily mix the acapella on top while djing live

fhmprojectParticipantGreat way to show off dropping pellas over tunes, djs u mention will have their own edits but i would guess they edit the tune, not just paste a pella over it in a studio. Practice it at home, the Larry Heard – InThe Beginning is a good 1 to start with as if ur just going to play the pella u dont have to mix it, but if ur gonna loop sections of it then sounds much better mixed, but just practise practise practise is great fun.

fhmprojectParticipanti know what tune its from mate, thanks , Larry Heard aka Mr Fingers, only reason i and a lot of people would call it in the beginning is cos thats what the pellas called on countless pella cds and ull notice the absence of any of the Can You Feel It vocals in it. But yes it is from the tune Can You Feel It

Greg JParticipantthose guys make re-edits, as do most producers who are greedy and decided to move into the DJ market to tour and make extra cash.

ZafusoParticipanti love to drop some acapellas live, but it does go wrong easily
so mostly when i do it i have practiced it before,i dont really make my own editsAdSense 336x280December 22, 2007 at 7:11 pm #639904
DJ Bobby VParticipantDropping acapellas is easy and fun, just work it out at home first.

tommyladdParticipantdjs can make their own re-edits. i have done a couple myself on my computer at home but its much better live when u drop pellas in over tracks. some djs even do live remixes of bootlegs that already exist- for exmple even tho the tunes ‘umbrella’ and ‘at night’ have been mixed onto mp3 to make ‘umbrella at night’ i seen ingrosso make his own version and layerd the pella over the top differently to the one thats already been made…then he used echoes etc.
making it on your comp is all good but live is much better and adds originality to sets.AdSense 336x280June 21, 2012 at 9:36 am #693355
PrinceJonasParticipantre-edits in the studio first, well swedish house mafia definitely do
